Re: Mods for new pilot

Post by FFOman »

I've played X3 for awhile but it's really like going to a job you don't like but have to suffer with. I bought Evochron in the hope that it will bring a little fun back to Space Sims.
My question has to do with the list of available mods. I wish to add any enhancements before I start really playing. That way I don't need to re-learn. Which enhancements do others think are great and that don't prevent one from going multi-player? When I say enhancements I mean mods like: Better HUDs, gun sights, textures, ships, etc. I'm not interested in any that change the game in anyway. Thanx in advance for any reccomendations.

All the mods in my experience only affect the huds and other miscellaneous options, they have no bearing in your ability to play multiplayer as you are the only one to see the mods you install.

 Yes, most mods are simply eye candy. A couple help with exploration (finding undocumented star systems) and one mod will append the default IMG quest ... but game play remains the same, no matter how many mods you add now (or later).

There are a lot of mods out there for as many different games, and my basic worry was that some might make more drastic alterations like that change the overall theme ie. Star Trek, Babylon 5, etc. I remember one mod the in changing the version numbers dissallowed it from MP too.
In any case, does anyone have any reccomendations or know of problems with 'eye candy' mods for Evochron?

If you load too many (so easy to do!!) you might have memory problems or occassionally memory conflicts (usually solved by a reboot). You can also mix and match HUD parts or change bits to suit your taste.

I don't use the external views of my ship when playing, so the ship mods aren't important to me, though it would be fun just to fly round in a TIE fighter or Viper. The nebulae, trees, asteroid and jump mods have the biggest immediate impact for me - love them! :)

 Ship mods affect all ships of the same type. Even AI.
