Awesome Moments in Evochron:

Post by Bænlynn »

Was on NC, when I got a distress call from a new pilot. They'd run out of fuel over New Hope and were in an uncontrolled descent. I was up in Cerulean. So I had a few minutes at most to traverse the entire sector --not hard with JGs and a mantis drive-- the hard part was going to be locating the target in the time I'd have left.

I jumped into Sapphire and threw the ship into a hard dive, and selected New Hope starport. I was guessing where they'd be and hoping I'd have the right orientation when I came out. I jumped in a few hundred Deca-Metres from New Hope Starport still, drifting forward. The target was off to my left, I burned hard, almost trading paint with the station. I was 60Ks away, and I was 450 Ks up and I had to close that gap before we hit the atmosphere or else it'd be me that was in trouble.

I passed 3K a second 250 Ks out I wasn't going to close the gap before I hit the atmosphere I pulled back to 1200, as fast as I dared and began trying to establish a trade connection. still too far away. A few tense seconds go by, I try again, still too far. I hear the sound of atmosphere rushing over my wings and establish a connection finally. 150 Ks from impact a minute or less. But the trade connection isn't taking. Maybe it's static, connection issues, interference. Formed on a target in an uncontrolled descent, now I'm tubling the same way they are and we're 100 Ks from impact. I'm waiting for confirmation.

Finally, they get me targeted and I shoot across three fuel pods. I hit the afterburners and pull out, 60 K from impact crisis averted.

Thanks to nothing more than GRAVITY, you can have moments like this in Evochron.

Tension breaking I know... but couldn't you have just asked him to escape out until you got there? :)

Sure but then it wouldn't be a "Moment in Evochron"

At what speed was the new Pilot traveling towards the planet?.......If he was traveling towards the planet at 1400 speed he would have been fine switching to inertia, I never tried to land on a planet on inertia without fuel but I think he would have landed like a feather! And then you would have had al the time to deliver fuel to him so he could travel again. Good SAR story though, very cool!....;):cool::cool::cool::cool:

Hmm, i always enter at around 1500 and have the habit to keep it on inertia until i start stalling, i never made it close to the ground before it stalled.

It's not really an awesome moment but the first time i ever took a distress call, i landed on the planet with the cargo and there was 2 seconds left. I almost burnt my ship out in the descent.

Idk if this qualifies as epic, but a few days ago, before I started practicing combat (i literally had like only 7 kills lol), I was trying to nail the bh jump to andromeda and was ambushed by 5 vonari, and I was out of missles. after a massive 30 min skirmish i somehow managed to defeat them! I felt pretty proud haha.

the aftermath of floating around vonari space with no jump drive and crippled weapons was a bit terrifying tho lol.

epic moment in a n00b's eyes :D

Very Epic indeed StormFaction, I remmember my first time to Andromeda during the time of Renegades as a noob without a tractor beam low on fuel only way to get back was through wormhole in a black hole! Must have tried 200 times before figuring it out!.....;):P

Great story’s.

I had a nice SAR rescue before the IDS multiplier was implemented.

A noob pilot was drifting dry at about 6200K and was eventually gonna hit a planet.
He screamed for help and I rushed in and jumped to his location. I just had time to see him
pass by like a meteor.

We communicated a lot and he transmitted his coordinates continuously.
That made it possible to predict his position so I could jump ahead, apply thrusters and reach 6000K
just before he entered my radar range. I could then slightly adjust speed and direction to get in close enough
to transfer a fuel pod.

He managed to stop and I build a trade station so he could refuel.

This rescue took about 1 hr.

He thanked me and jumped right into a planet LOL!:o

I learned a lot about maneuvering my ship during that rescue. Great fun! ;)

See if i was drifting dry, i'd just auto-destruct and reload my last save... Unless i suppose they saved when they were about dry.

 Evidently, re-loading puts you at a dead stop. So, even if you saved when out of fuel, you would still be solving half the problem.

Yeah but i can't see why anyone would save when they are dry or nearly dry. I guess a new player might i suppose....

The pilot maybe had gotten a ton of money and/or several ranks and forgot to save and realized that
when he was drifting. Self destruct would loose all the progress he made!
