Multi Core Support - Server Questions

Post by EU_NL »

Hello all and well met!

Disclaimer: If this has been asked before, i am sorry, i tried the search and found alot, but not the answer i was seeking :-)

I started the EU_NL public server a few days ago and i have a question about running a server:

- Is the server made to support multi cores? I have Icore7 with 4 cores and 8 logical proccesors running but even when the server is idle it seems to take roughly 10-11% CPU, and i mean the .exe process.

Features requests:

- More logging would be great, as in, max number players online, max and average cpu useage per session, mem useage average etc.

- Running the game as a service
- Parsing tools for the logfiles
- Are there any admin commands?

like:

- Reboot 10 (would reboot the server in 10 min and give a warning to the players every minute)
- Shutdown 10 (would shutdown the server in 10 min)
- Option to see top 10 of players on your server, the session playtime per player, ping times to player etc...

Specs im using:

For now im running the game on a Icore7 2.67
12 GB RAM DDR3 1333
SSD Disk 320gb
ATI Radeon HD 5800 GDDR5 1GB

Last question:

How do i get more players? :-)
Seriously i get about 3-4 players max while i was expecting to be swarmed because a game like this is asking for the MMO experience but so far the number of players online seems limited?

Keep up the great work on this game and i hope the multiplayer experience will only grow with time!

Yes, the multiplayer system is multi-core capable. Don't expect it to use up much CPU at idle or even with a few players on. As the player list grows though, you'll likely see the CPU use increase significantly. Your system is very powerful and should handle 24-35 players just fine, depending on your internet connection speed and other settings.

It's possible to add those, maybe as an option so server admins who don't want their logs cluttered with that info can leave it out. Please send me such suggestions via e-mail as I may miss/forget this post and use my e-mail as a kind of 'to-do' and 'review' list.

The current servers seem to be handling the player base pretty well, but it may grow over time... so just giving it time may see some results. Also, share your server specs with the community by posting a server announcement where others have. Include a few details such as rules, time availability (if limited), server specs, location, etc.
