Afterburner drive

Post by Cheri50000 »

Hi, guys!

How does the afterburner drive work and does the afterburner drive gives the spacecraft more speed than the regular afterburner when you start the game? Thanks!

Cheers,
Vincent

Yes is does give you more of a boost but for a limited time. This means (you might do your own tests) you can go faster for a period of time but then you don't have any afterburner till it recharges. You decide if it will fit your style of Piloting.:)

In combat it's pretty much a must; otherwise, it's up to you; on short contracts, you prolly have enough fuel anyway, but if/when fuel is an issue, you may want to refrain from overusing the afterburner. It's really a fuel vs time trade-off.

In combat with a lot of enemies it can be a hassle to because you might not have enough power to flee out of harms way when you get stuck in a hornets nest!....;)

Or the guns to shoot missiles or the ability to use energy to jump out. it's a pretty steep trade off but it does fit some peoples style. It is however totally up to you how you want to play the game.

Afterburner drive

Hi, guys!

I know the regular afterburner used when you first started the game, the spacecraft get up to 6,000 speed in inertial mode and while the afterburner drive what you purchase will get the spacecraft speed up to 10,000 speed when in inertial mode, is that correct? Thanks!

In inertia mode you can accelerate forever (Until you run out of fuel).

The afterburner drive increases the output of the standard afterburner, by utilizing your ship's power system. This means you can only use it for short bursts - until your ship runs out of power reserve and needs to recharge.
Personally I do not use one because in my opinion the amount of ship's power used to the expense of weapons usage does not compensate for the additional thrust.

You mention speeds of up to 6000, but I haven't been in any situation yet where I had to use such a high speed. In combat I normally don't go over 1500 tops (sometimes a bit more to get in range of my target when its really far away), and it's only when I want to dock at a station and I'm a bit too far off to wait I accelerate to 4500 or so.

To cover any considerable amount of distance in space, you really want to use the jump drive anyway.

You can only accelerate up to 10,000 speed max (which is jumpdrive velocity) on inertial and/or ids/afterburner.
Notice how when you jump your speed indicator says 10k!......;)

Hi, guys!

I can accelerate to a speed of 6,000 in about 80 seconds with a regular afterburner, so how much shorter it takes to accelerate to a speed to 6,000 with a afterburner drive then with a regular afterburner? Thanks!

Probably longer then 80 seconds. When I tried to use the After burner drive unit it only last for short burst to accelerate you for a 3 to 5 seconds burst just enough for you to avoid being hit by missiles up to a speed of say 2000-3000 depending on how fast you where already drifting and in which direction and your power to use regular After burners is gone so you have to wait for your Power to recharge to use another burst of Afterburner drive...;)

The afterburner drive is a good way to get killed more quickly in combat. So I say, if that is you goal, you should use it! :D
