Widescreen, FOV and sw.cfg

Post by wasdie »

Hi all, just picked up this game last night after seeing about it on Steam. It looked fantastic so I picked it up.

I ran through the tutorials, it all seemed pretty straight forward. I'm families with the X series games and Freelancer so I feel right at home. My questions aren't about gameplay but rather some of the basic HUD and visual elements.

The first thing I noticed is that the HUD is rather large and in my way just a bit. I saw there are mods for a new cockpit and hud but I would like some information as to where to start. So what would be the best route for me to deal with that?

The second question I have is dealing with the field of vision (FoV). I find it's a bit on the low side for my liking and I feel a bit claustrophobic sitting in my ship. Is there any way to increase the FoV a bit?

I'm planning on building a triple monitor setup in the near future but until then a smaller scale HUD and wider FoV would go a long way into helping me enjoy this game.

Thank you.

Don't play in an open cockpit no struts. Takes away the compact feeling. Go to options in the game and change your cockpit setting.

The best place to start would probably be the customizing kit and the mod forum. The kit you can download from the game's website here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... nloads.htm Instructions are included and they'll walk you through the various options for importing custom cockpits and modifying/designing HUD's. You can also turn off the 3D cockpit structure in the Options menu.

Yes. Here is the information on adjusting the field of view setting, which will let you manually dial in the FOV to different levels. When you make a change, you'll want to exit the game and relaunch it to test.

Open the sw.cfg file in notepad, edit line 17 (sixth from the bottom) to a value between 0.1 and 5.0. Restart the game to test the change. This method may produce unexpected results (such as clipping or stretching), but is an available option if you're having trouble getting the display field looking the way you prefer.

I fly in 2D mode. Much better view that way!;)

Widescreen, FOV and sw.cfg

Apologies if I'm being dense, but where is sw.cfg?

I'm running the latest Steam version of Mercenary, I've downloaded the Custom Kit and I've got view hidden files selected. I can't find it in the steam directories or the kit.

I'm running Eyefinity on 3 x 30" displays and really need to play with the FOV.

Grateful for advice.

Thanks,

CJ

Apologies, I was being dense - If all else fails check C:

I've got the FOV at 4, and the only problem I have is that if I use the hat to look left or right I get a wedge of sky at the edge of the screen in the direction I'm looking.

Next to get TrackIR reinstalled...
