contract objectives failed

Post by Philosaur »

I just bought the game, which I'm REALLY hoping I'm not going to regret (didn't play the demo first).

So far, I'm quite frustrated. I went through the tutorial, had problems when it said "now dock with the station here" and there was no station, and I couldn't find one anywhere. I played through that section again, and the station was suddenly right next to me. Strange.

Anyway, now I'm trying to do a contract. I docked at Evochron station, selected a timed race contract, got the waypoint, jumped to it, and then heard immediately "Contract objectives failed."

Ok, must have done something wrong. Flew back to the station, got another contract to destroy some asteroids to open a mining route (or something). Got the waypoint, jumped to it, and immediately heard the words again "Contract objectives failed." WTF? What am I doing wrong, and why is this so counter-intuitive?

"Welcome Aboard Philosaur"....I know if you travel out of the sector the contract/mission is in then you would get the "Contract objective failed" message. also if you failed to win a race. Hmmm....I too would wonder what is happening if I get that message when I just jumped to the correct nav point. Perhaps Vice could help you there.

When you jump to a nav point make sure your pitch is set to 0. And also in your Navigation destination coordinates make sure your SY coordinate matches the SY coordinate of the sector your in. because if your destination SY coordinate is different then the sector your in you will jump out of the sector your in.

Acttualy to make sure you are not jumping out of sector or driffting in inertia at the border of a sector out of the sector,
make sure before jumping that your SX, SY, SZ destination coordinates matches the sector coordinates you are in. And also make sure that your jump point is not close to the border of a nother sector.....;)

Also I would suggest to read the instructions manual.....;)

And also before I forget, welcome to the game and forum.....:P;)

Is the readme.htm in the program folder considered the instruction manual? There is no other document in the folder.

Easiest thing I've found so far is to just activate auto pilot once I leave the station, wait to be flying perfectly level with the dot (~5 seconds) and then jumping.

Also found that jumping is easiest and most accurate from the nav computer, rather than pressing the jump button. I do not pretend to understand why.

Right clicking on an icon and setting pitch to "0" will always line you up with the gate or station.
That's why.:D

Hrm. I've been having lots of WTF moments with the game (most recently with shields suddenly dropping to nothing and not recharging) so I looked in the Training section for the instruction manual. There are links to go through each of the tutorial missions...and a link that exits the game and opens the readme file I mentioned earlier.

Am I missing something?

Yes, I am also getting the contract objective failed, seems to have happened since I moved from Joystick to mouse flight, whne you autopilot the NAv point and the waypoint are overlapping one another and there seems no way to get rid of the nav point so that you autopilot to the waypoint - bcak to the manual and joystick to see if I can learn more

Yep, works fine in joystick mode, doesn't mind if your pitch os not at 0 but in mouse mode (direction swap) even if you set pitch to 0 if you have taken on a quest then use autopilot and jump you end up in the wrong place and get the message.

That is odd, but I have never used K&M, so I wouldn't know.
I would like to suggest that you try MP asap. No one there will attack you, well almost no-one, and you can get help from other players as well as the server. You don't need to wait untill you have ammassed a fortune and a great ship. MP is a place to get help, tips and answers to questions.
