I have been trying to follow the really amazing tutorial on "Starting Your Mining Adventure" and have hit a snag in playing Mercenary:

Every time I leave Sapphire in order to explore, I get jumped by red ships, and I am just not very good at dogfighting with a keyboard and mouse.

Is there a way to get my reputation up in other systems?

Also:

Is there a "Basics of dogfighting in Evochron Mercenary" guide someplace?

Hello and welcome to a great sim.

You can get your reputation up by doing contracts in the area for the navy and miners.;)
also go online is a great help. In MP you will instantly get help if you need it.

Here is a lot of info: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... iverse.htm
And here is a map of the universe (Spoiler Alert): http://evochron.junholt.se

Hi Drewbicus, welcome to the game and forum. Join Multiplayer and there will be others to help you. Combat takes a lot of practice and skill to master. If you wan't to avoid combat in the beginning and just explore then just travel on inertia above a speed of 1800 and only stop if there are no reds around to explore other wise keep moving only on inertia and reds will not be able to touch you...;)

Thanks for the welcome. I will try the multiplayer as soon as I get my joystick (unless folks tell me flying is easier with the keyboard and/or mouse)

I have a X52 and I use that on my desktop but I play 99% on my laptop using just mouse and keyboard. I am not the best at PvP but I can handle any AI. You can set your keys to help you if needed.;)

It would be great to hear input on how you do that.
