Starting quest help

Post by Blake Steel »

Hey everyone, new guy here. Last space exploration game I played was a DOS based game before the first windows came out (I think it was called free space or something). This is the best game Ive seen since. My problem is this, I did the first 4 or 5 quests and finished the one where it teaches you to mine the asteroids. When I finished, the text for the next mission disappeared before I could read it. When I go into the news area and look at last message it just gives me the last line of text. It says something about a hidden area. Does anyone know where to go? Is there a better way to see the last mission message or even scroll up on the text scroll bar that doesnt seem to work?

In the news area there is a button called view last message. That should show you the whole text.

If I haven't said it before, welcome to a great sim.

See ya out there.

Ok I figured it out. You have press alt+/ to scroll up on the quest log. Now I've run into a whole new problem . I got my first combat mission that takes you to the Olympus system. Now I've spent countless hours mining and making my ship ass badass as possible. I have all the best equipment available. Well I roll up on these 4 enemy ships and they complety destroy me in about 2 seconds. This is supposed to be a combat training mission. I knew combat was rough in this game but holy Crap! Any Advise? Maybe some easy area where I can fight one on one without screwing up important faction reputations. Man I got Schooled!

 Speed is life. And inertia is your best friend when in combat. Use missiles at long range (1800-2400) ... keep up your speed and adjust your trajectory to pass above, below or to the side ... fire cannons and lasers as you speed by ... turn around (using inertia) and wait until out of immediate danger ... disengage inertial ... fire afterburner to change course ... re-engage inertial and do it all over again.

Ids off is a must on combat for new player. Press space bar to turn ids on and off. You can use speed "afterburner" by pressing "tab" and "/tab" to use reverst afterburner

Hi Blake, welcome to Evochron!

Olympus is the best place to start learning combat. To get a little practice first avoid taking combat missions and try just flying around until you see a lone red. If you are swamped by too many jump away and do a bit more flying around... usually you'll come across one or two reds that will be an easier practice target. If you go on MP there'll be other players who would be happy to give you a bit of combat training.
