What are your attack strategies
So I know not all of you are willing to give out this information but I am having a heck of a time. I'm an old guy and not as savy as some of you young whipper snappers at this. I haven't played video games since asteroids was popular. I have read the Combat Strategies for Legends and manage to get a few reds after about 20 minutes before I die and have completed 2 or 3 combat missions without having to resort to blowing everything to high heaven with a fulcrum torpedo. It looks like some of you guys finish your missions in only about 3 minutes. My strategy so far has been to skirt the mob at a speed of between 900 to 1500 turn off IDS and try to follow them with guns blazing as they pass. Also what civilian craft do you like to use for this kind of battle. Right now I am using a Starmaster which probably isn't the best craft for this kind of mission. It takes for ever to turn around as they pass. But it is capable of holding a lot of equipment for self-defense.

Hello Parapilot. You seem to have the basic idea correct. Never stand still/go to slow.
I normally strafe past them (Never aim your direction of travel straight at them, slightly aside to pass by is better).
I take down their shields with main weapons, and then send a missile to finish them of.
Practice, and also fight in MP where everyone will help you get better is what I did in the beginning.
I fly a Mammoth. Lots of equipment slots and with a high wing class it becomes more like a fighter. Love it.
I never use self-defense equipment. I do that myself. Better to boost up your weapons I think.
I listen to the missile-warning and fire CM:s when needed.
Hope to see ya out there.

I also use a Starmaster. For combat roles I max out on shields and wing system. That gives it respectable maneuverability. With AI I use similar tactics as you described and as SeeJay says, although I tend to hit them with a missile first then finish off with primary weapons. I usually approach a target slightly to the side at about 1500 velocity on inertia. When the target comes within about 1800 metres I release a missile and simultaneously go to IDS so I can slow down to finish it off with guns if the missile doesn't completely destroy the target. When you fire missiles you have to make sure the target is approaching you... if it is moving away or to the side it will most likely evade your missile.

I jump in and shoot them until they die. Don't tell anyone this strategy. it's secret.

LOL....Dingo79.......
:P:P:P:P, I use a Starmaster as well and can complete missions under 3 minutes.
I plot a way point behind the cap ship when I jump. I set my heading to 180 degrees and to set waypoint to jump behind the cap ship by left clicking a little above the combats set way point on nav map.
Do not set to far above or you will end up to far behind the enemies cap ship when you jump. I jump with IDS on so I come to a complete stop about 3600 units behind the cap ship and the enemies will start closing in on me. I turn inertial on but keep my velocity at 0 and wait til the closest enemy reaches 1600-1700 distance. I fire my exodus missiles while shooting down incoming missiles and release flares and at the same time reverse engines in inertial till I reach about velocity of 300 so I do not go to fast backwards at this point my exodus allone will have destroyed 2 enemiesand the others will be closing in
a choose the closest 3rd one flying backwards between 300 and 700 velocity and take the remaining enemies out one by one with my guns. This takes a lot of practice. This way I have my guns always continues hitting the enemies while sliding side ways at between 300 and 700 speed. Adn the mission completes with the last one killed. Sometimes you will have to destroy the capship and that takes another tactic you have to master. The Cap ship can be destroyed in under 20 seconds from behind....

I like to do it the easy way. I set my marker just off the waypoint, which means that I usually come in around 4k from the target. Hit Alt R, to find the nearest red - leave my speed at 500, and switch on inertia. When I get my first missile lock, I fire, hit reverse thrust, go out to -10k, or just over, take out the Von as the missile locks, I usually end up with 2 Exodus left. Then I go for the cap ship. I just coast in until I see it turn yellow, or red, then max thrust, target its weapons, and finish it off. Pick up all the anti matter cargo it leaves behind, back to the carrier, reload with missiles, jump to the constructor bay, swap the anti matter for, the fuel thingy, then off to the stn, and sell the fuel thingies, get just over 6m for them - then on to the next mission - easy peasy, though a bit slow.
And mad cat-

take out the Von as the missile locks,
eg:
3733T = ELite
Von = etc etc....

Best attack strategy is, defence... To measure your enemies weight!
Additionally, you should learn how to dance with missile(s), and how you keep your speed in turns, gun and laser effects on different frames or enemies...
Shortest way to learn how to fight is, join Mp and ask for training with good fighters. Ns, Sw,Ba etc... are very old age clans, they have good fighters.They love to make something sparkle! We need spare parts, eh?
Good flying...

Yep, including your reputation and kills. If you have the highest rank and reputation in Multiplay the enemy always goes after the lower ranking ones. So you get less hits with a higher ranking. Cause the enemy will fear you......LOL....Originally posted by Eclipse
Best strategy is whatever makes them hit you less often, and that can vary by player.![]()

My top secret strategery is to pick 'em off one a time.
On patrols I like to jump in at some angle off the elliptic for a strafing pass and pick the first target to send some Excalibur love to. Then switch to guns while the missiles reload and get after the next one.
If there's a pack chasing me, I try to pick a target and manuever with thrusters to keep that ship between mine and the swarm while I hammer on it with beams and cannon.
I try not tp let my speed go below 1k and am constantly maneuvering away from the bandit's firing envelope.
Sometimes, it even works!
I'm using a hot rodded Legacy with a lot shields/engine/armament. Gets the job done pretty well for me.
