New player questions...

Post by Marvin »

The advantage of playing on line when doing contracts is that players can cooperate with one another. The number of enemy ships doesn't increase with the number of pilots working the contract. (But, then again, the number of enemy ships can increase from what's expected ... depending on how long it takes to terminate the original few. Because the enemy has friends ... and won't hesitate to call on those friends when under attack.)

When on a server, you can press the tilde key (~) to get a display of every pilot's current location. Most of the time, two or more pilots will already be engaged in a co-op contract ... and will be more than happy to have you assit. Depending on where you are in the Mercenary universe, it usually doesn't take more than five or ten minutes to traverse the jumpgates to where others are already fighting off the bad guys.

Hello rkelbley, Welcome to the forum and hopefully the Sim. Have fun with the demo and hope to see you out there sometime.:)

You could do this but as Marvin says you can see the general location of others so you can join up if you want but the game is vast and you can also avoid others if you want as some do. :D:P:D

Hi rkelbley, welcome to the game and forum. In Multiplay online when others are on at the same time as you you can chat with them from anywhere in the Evochron Universe and transmit your coordinates and meet up with others in a few minutes depending on your jumpdrive and theirs.....;):P:P:P:P:P:cool:

"Welcome Aboard rkelbley"...Flying in MP allows you to ask questions of the pilots online and get quick answers...if you don't get an answer fast it may just be the pilots are in the middle of fighting Hostiles ;)

Okay, having read through this thread, I have a few questions:

From the two replies I've seen, you can either press tilde or send someone your coordinates manually. Is the first true? I feel like seeing everyone's current location might have a negative effect. I know in previous online space games I've played, something like this would provoke mass pirating.

Also, the question of how many people play this game remains up in the air. I have no problem with a small player base; in some cases, it's preferable. I'd just like to know before I look at purchasing the game.

Thanks in advance, there seems to be a great, decent community here.

Firstly, that kinda the point, without sector knowledge you'd never be able to even try to pirate / attack , and even then sectors can be big enough to hide in, even when it does happen its not possible for someone to spoil your game by constantly hunting you down and killing you.

point 2. on average there seems to be around 7-15 players on during the evenings, a far cry from the first MP server where I was lucky to get one visitor per week!

"Hi Skelbley welcome to the forum"....the tidal key shows the sx and sz nav point where the fellow pilots are, once you are there you can ask a pilot to send their position to you. In the nav map there is a button to push that will send your position via the text message...then everybody will know your position...;) Note: once you send your position you can move away from the exact position thus giving you the advantage of surprise...just encase a Bad Alien shows up of which there are very few...the Romulan is known for blowing up new pilots.

Hello skelbley, Welcome to the forum and Hopefully the Sim. I just saw 11 on MP and that varies depending on the time of day as players are from around the globe and there are different servers although we prefer Remula One. See you out there sometime.:)

Gotcha, thanks for the answers all. I'll take this all into consideration. Love the game, graphics are just great. Love the Newtonian physics model as well. Thanks again!
