Help: I feel Like A Fool Already

Post by Tarkus »

Cant even get started. I did the training missions fine. When I launch, it says to land at the trade city on New Hope. So I head toward the planet, not too fast. But unlike in training, I don't see the green guide boxes. As I get close, I only see red ones. Of course, I crash. What am I doing wrong?

It is in sapphire, galactic NW of the planet sapphire. Go to new hope and land on the city on the south side.

If the brackets for docking are red your approach angle is incorrect, you can either orbit the planet towards the brackets until they turn green or you can descend and then navigate the planet's atmosphere towards your destination

as for blowing up, you are probably going too fast. Most planets the atmosphere begins around an altitiude of 155000, or something like that, at this point you must be going less than about 1500 k or your shields will take damage, then your ship. More powerful shields and boosting power to them can allow you to sustain higher speeds in the atmosphere.

Try Blackthorne's reccomendation maybe for rapid descent posted here if you are in a hurry or being attacked (or you are impatient like me).

I had a very similar problem. You can use the nav console to jump to the planet, but if you're not on the correct side of it you'll have to fly around it to get the green guides to land at the city. As others have said, you don't want to be going too fast when you enter the atmosphere (I think the max speed is something like 750), and you definitely do not want to activate your jump drive while still in the planet's atmosphere--even if the display looks clear. I learned that the hard way!

You can go a good bit faster than 750....

But yes in planet jumping is suiccide.

You can jump from the edge of a plenets atmosphere if you jump out towards space ans your shields are good enouh to hold up while you exit the atmosphere, but you have tobe really close to the edge of the atmosphere.

For anyone having trouble locating cities, try using your NAV console and placing a destination point as close to the city as possible. Make sure you do this for the XZ axes AND the XY axes. (Use the rear view button to make sure of this). Then you can easily find the city by following your Nav marker. I find this method more swift and reliable than following the guidance brackets.

 And, when using that method, look for the tiny, white blinking beacon first.

I can never see the light, for most planets i just try to remember the shape of the continent the city is on & then follow the docking brackets. I have better than 20-20 vision, your glasses must give you superhuman sight marv, LoL.

PS: i though the cool guy glasses emoticon would be appropriate for this post for you marv! :p
