Can some of the effects be disabled?

Post by vatin »

For realism sake I'd like to have some effects disabled (or an option) such as

* Vibration and sound from distant explosions (sound not possible in vacuum)
* Certain sounds from distant sources
* Disable the "particle motion cue".

I believe most (if not all) sounds can be disabled via customization kit by replacing with blank sound file, but how about vibrations?

Anyhow, this game is unique and I possibly end up purchasing it anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean by "vibrations" and "particle motion cue" As for sounds they all can be turned of or modified with the customization kit. I believe there are also volume and sound controls in the games control options menu. Are you talking about force feed back Vibrations...?......;)

Oh yes, also welcome to the game and forum. Hope to see you out there when you do purchase the game.....;)

* Vibration and sound from distant explosions (sound not possible in vacuum)
For sounds, yes, see the customizing kit for details. Sounds are possible if the computer generates them for you in the cockpit (much like how radio telescopes can create sound from radiation in the vacuum of space).

If by vibrations, you mean the shaking effects from weapon impacts and near proximity explosions, no. That's an inherent part of the game engine. Although you can reduce the apparent effect from the pilot's perspective by switching to the chase view.
* Certain sounds from distant sources
Also available via the customizing kit.
* Disable the "particle motion cue".
If you are referring to the motion spears on the HUD, yes, there are two ways to do that. First, switch to HUD mode 1, which turns them off. Second, you can replace the texture with a blank one so they are invisible even in HUD mode 2. See the customizing kit for details.
