How can I give my crew members voices?

Post by Sinbad »

Is there any way to get sound files to work when one of the ship's crew members gives you a message?

I'm referring to when a text message comes up giving you information from a crew member. For example when the science officer says that "the nearby planet may contain valuable material". I'd love it if that was a sound file and you could personalise the message as an audio communication. I've seen how to replace sound files using the mod kit, but as far as i can tell that's only to replace existing sound files with different ones. I can't work out how or if it's possible to have a sound file in place of (or as well as) the text messages.

Thanks in advance:)

Not currently. Some of the messages also contain specific numerical information that would require assembling individual fragments to form the sentences (properly stop/start timed and sequenced). Then if variety was wanted, many recorded fragments would be needed for each type of voice. Would likely be tricky to set up. And you wouldn't want it to replace the text message, otherwise, you'd lose the record of it and might have to leave the sector and come back to hear it again. With the text message, it's entered into the log and you can scroll up to view it later.

America's Army has something like that so you have the option of hearing and seeing chat. The problem comes when someone does a chat spam.:P

Yeah, sounds rather complicated. Pity as it would have been nice to add a little extra immersion into the game with listening to your crew members. I guess I could use the sound files to generate some random utterances from the crew, like the station radio updates. Thanks anyway.
