Is there any way we can get an autosave feature? I get caught up in the game, forget to save... then eitehr get killed, or jump in atmoshpere and explode....causing me to lose like 2 hrs or so

Make a habit of quick-saving regularly. When docked, after contract completion, when finished mining or hauling something somewhere, make a quick save and you're good to go. If you then stuff up, you don't have to go back several hours!

I know, I used to do the same thing myself. Just try and remember to do it during the instances I listed, and you'll get yourself into a routine.

Docking at the station is the most common trigger in other games.

An autosave would be nice, if it didn't overwrite your game file. There's nothing I hate more than a game that autosaves me an instant before destruction (or worse) and then I'm stuck with it. On the other hand, I think I could live with the quick save if there were a quicker way to do it. So far I find I have to hit escape, grab the mouse (which takes my hand off the joystick), click the save option, then hit escape again and reach for the joystick. If there were a single keybind for quicksave, I'd use it a lot more.

Of course, there probably is such a thing already and I just haven't found it. Like 40% of my other posts :/

There is a key binding for Quick Save: [Alt F9]. Maybe you could program a button on your stick! :D

AltF9 AltF9 AltF9..... It's always in the back of my mind. Good habit to build. I actually have a macro for it on my joystick ;)

Yup! The trouble with an auto save is that it might just do an auto save at a time you don't want a save. Alt F9 suits me fine, though I prefered the Alt Q as I could do it with one hand and it was an easy key/finger combination.

could re-map one of the unused keys to be autosave (unless you've already assigned them to something else).... like F8, F11 or F12...

agreed that an autosave feature could backfire if it saved when you really didn't want it to.... while frustrating to lose progress if you didn't save, it shouldn't take many times of that happening to get someone into the habit of saving regularly

I can think of many times where an auto save would have been a prob

Yeah, imagine you're on a long jump, like to Sol, and you run out of fuel... eek! The darn auto save has you stuck in the middle nowhere, fuelless... much screaming and shouting, terrified spiders.

i think a "autosave" each time you pick and finish a contracts would be much apreciated ! im a newbie and just lost a 2h or so because i forgot to save after 1 mission lol

also maybe a "load" in the game so you dont have to get out to load your last save !

just a suggestion to make the game more smooth ! i mean this game already make you stop to plan your navigation ,take contract ect... so i belive a "autosave" and "load" will make the game more fluid with those :)

Just FYI, if you're used to quicksave key being F5 (due to many games using it as quicksave key), there's an option in the configuration for a "secondary function key" for it, I think it's on page 3. You could always ADD (you don't remove the original ALT-F9) F5 as a key for autosave.

Yeah F5 currently is "fire particle weapons only", but you could "clear key" there and still keep your joystick/mouse bindings for that, and hence use F5 for quicksave.
