Okay - I'm still new here, so here's my question...
I have a talon ship with 3 cargo holds and 400 max of fuel. So how do I get the max of 5 cargo holds and more fuel capacity?
(or is that the max for the talon?) If I CAN iprove my ship, HOW do I do that (I've been trying in the shipyard, but nothing seems to happen...)
I HAVE found that when I'm mining, I usually get 25 of each of the Diamonds, Platinum and Metal - and since the metal isn't worth much I dump that cargo hold and mine again (and I always seem to get a Diamond first) I can get 2 holds of Diamonds and one of Platinum - now if I could dump the Diamonds and get ALL Platinum, that would obviously be the way to go, but I always seem to get a Diamond first...) I've heard something about getting mining equipment that can mine just for a particular type, but I don't see it available when I go to the station - anyone know where I can get a platinum drill?
Thanx,
Dennis

Improving my ship
Hi instgtr,
welcome to the game:)
I recommend you to make a Quicksave before starting operations in the shipyard so you can try out different scenarios.
Modifications to your ship is done by
- Frame Config
- Using Assembly Ressources
Assembly Ressources:
In the Shipyard, you can drag & drop upgrades from the left to your ship frame in the center. How much you can upgrade will depend on the ressources for a specific frame, larger frames have generally higher ressources.
The most important upgrades for defence and combat are SHIELDS and WINGS. For non-combat, exploration, mining etc. focus on CARGO and bigger FUEL TANKS. With higher frames, install higher ENGINES.
Frame Config:
Much more important than your Assembly Ressources. You can reduce one feature to increase another one. How much overall features you have depends on the frame, only the higher frames will give you more capacity. The most important is the number of HARDPOINTS able to install special equipment and the number of SECONDARY WEAPONS you can take, be it for combat or for defense.
Also with drag & drop you can change your entire ship frame by chosing one in the right side and dragging it to the center.
The costs of all modifications is shown in the upper center display, showing your cash and below the modification costs. Your original ship is on the left, all your modifications are shown on the right.
Be sure to always adapt your ship to your actions... You don't need big cargo bays for combat, nor do you need 5 secondary weapon slots for mining or exploration.
Ok, hope this helps to get you away

About Mining, You can prep your 5 Cargo bays to mine what ever you want. Fill up all your cargo bays with one unit of Plantinum bought from a Station then go mining till all Cargo bays are full with platinum.
Your second option is with 5 Cargo bays to fill up each cargo bay with one unit of each ore available, Diamond, Gold, Oxygen, Metal, Platinum, for example than when mining keep disregarding what ever is picked up in your last 5th cargo bay till you pick up 1 unit of Platinum, then disregard what ever gets collected in your 4th cargo bay till you get 1 unit of platinum in your 4th cargo bay, then disregard from your third cargo bay till you pick up 1 unit of platinum in your second cargo bay, then disregard your second cargo bay content till you pick up 1 unit of platinum in that cargo bay and now do the same with your first cargo bay till you have 1 unit of platinum in there. Now you should have 1 unit of platinum in 2-4 Cargo bay while 1 is being filled with Platinum from minning.
Now you can go have some coffee and come back and find all Cargo filled with Platinum.
But your best option if you can afford one is to find a Platinum minning beam only available in hightech systems that are often hidden!......
