Hi,
I like very much the new Terrain Walker in EM (v.2 and later). It very much fits to the game that cares about reasonable action and gameplay without moving over or ignoring the physical laws.
Here you see it in action:

This technology also perfectly fits about what can be real life in 80-100 years or so.
Some people complain that the walker is bigger than the whole ship. No problem at all! The progress of Nanotechnology will allow such "magic" deployments. We will go to other stars with a ship of a dimension of a few milimeters in size filled with a lot of Nanobots.
These Nanobots will be able to manipulate things and materials not bigger than a single atom or molecule, yet being able to re-arrange them if needed and so constructing units like the Mesh Walker shown here. There is no need to transport him in his full size, only a very small (molecular) probe of the raw material must be actually transported. And this will save fuel and - costs. Yeah!
Also, in the Terrain Walker there's no human inside, no, no... where are you thinking!
In the mini ship we have sent to the stars, a microscopic Nanobot will guide this walker on the surface (years ago before this, human astronauts were in orbit of Mars guiding a similar vehicle, but then there was no nanotechnology yet!). On Earth, it's now years that we are all guided by such Nanobots: They are just present in our life like every part of computer processors are present in our computers right now.
The major problem was to manage Energy on Earth to get all this rolling.
That's why the Terrain Walker is a nice piece of work, in Space Games as well as a mean to get some realistic dreams about tomorrow.
Congrats to the EM dev team!

There's a chapter in the Mercenary Techy Guide about nanotechnology in Evochron! XenonSurf is pretty well spot on!

You know it had been quite a while since I had played this game... downloaded the update the other day, I log in and wow.. never expected the changes. This new machine in particular... really cool. Also is it me, or are some of the enemies a little tougher? And is it me, or has the graphic detail improved as well? Maybe its just been awhile, I dunno.

Those nanobots may be able to rearrange molecules, but they cannot create them. From post: 154611, Topic: tid=10336, author=XenonSurf wrote:Hi,

So all the materials for the entire walker should be present in the ship in a much compacter form.
This means that the mass of your ship doesn't change, so the fuel consumption will stay the same.
Also, in real life, walkers would be fairly impractical compared to wheeled vehicles.
All kinds of balance issues and stuff.
