Cockpit is transparent now after upgrading ship

Post by Kanigit »

Hey all, just picked up this game off a Steam sale and having a blast. Kudos to SW3DG!

Small problem I encountered after upgrading my ships frame, the cockpit view is now transparent and I cant figure out what happened. I can see other ships and whatnot through the instrument panel, very distracting! Is it the game or something I may have pushed? If its me, then I have no idea because I have tried everything to recover the settings.

My son is also playing and has almost the same exact config on his ship and he doesn't have this issue running on a core2duo with a 9600GT LP/LP.

I am running a ASUS GX74 Core i7 (laptop)- Nvidia GT560m (306.97 drivers) - 12G Ram all on Win7 x64 patched up-to-date.

Hope this makes sense, I can post pics if needed upon request.

thx.

It's likely that the 3D cockpit setting in the Options menu has been set to 'Off'. Check that first to see if it just needs to be turned back on.

:o The stealth generator in Legends would do that (deliberately) to your cockpit ... but only while the cloak was engaged.

Yep, check dat first! Then check the hot-key/kybd commands "H" and "V". "H" toggles the HUD view options. "V" toggles the "cockpit/pilot view" ootions - 1st thru 3rd person/chase. May be finger-slippage as well. Happens to me more frequently than I'd like ! :P:P:P:P:P

Checked and tried all suggested with no luck. Images linked below of issue.

Settings
HUD Off - no instruments even?
HUD minimal
HUD Full

Cycling through the views I get the following

Cockpit View
View 2
View 3

HUD full is what I generally use and from the pic you can see the transparency issue with the instrument panel and outside targets/objects. This is the problem.

Are you referring to the direction indicators on the HUD? If so, that is intended functionality as the HUD in this game isn't just a small piece of glass inside the windshield, it's rendered to your helmet visor. So any indicators rendered to your helmet visor will appear ahead of any objects out ahead of the visor. This lets you see indicators and readouts in front of any objects, including the cockpit, rather than being masked by them. The same will be true for landing guide boxes, missile pointers, etc. If you press Alt-V and turn your ship around in various ways, you can see this demonstrated in tracking a ship visually with the readout always clearly displayed regardless of orientation and structures.

Looks like the Picture of Cockpit View which is the View you normally get When Cockpit View is set to OFF in the Game Setup Options is Displayed at the same time as the HUD Full picture you are showing wich is normally shown when you Have Cockpit view turned ON in the Game Setup Options.

Your Graphics Card May have Transparancy Settings. Or A picture edditing\\display software program you might be running have some transparancy settings set to default rendering any displayed picture transparant!.....;)

OK, so I have been poking around looking at other pilot vids/pics and they also have this, what I will now refer to as, "feature".

I guess I just never noticed it before or else when I upgraded my ship from the default talon frame I acquired it. Will just take some getting use to I guess.

HUD Full pic is what I normally fly around in and the ability to see targets through my instrument panel (or I guess overlayed since I now know it is coming from my helmet) is what I was looking to resolve.

Sorry for the non-issue.

Loving the game BTW...semi-old dude remembering the hours lost in Elite/WC on a 486 DX2/66.

Thx all.

P.S. Just updated drivers to 310.90 recently released. All Nvidia settings are set to default with application control. No other apps running in background other than the Steam client and the Synapse software for my Razor Naga.

The Reason I thought it was a Tranparancy issue is that you Stated that your son's display was showing it differently than yours!
Anyways here is a picture indicating the Antialiasing Transparancy setting for Nividia to Off. I think this has nothing to do with the issue however but is still good to know!

486 DX2/66
Yeah, 486 DX2/66 (complete with the math co-processor), that takes me back :) Back when everything was done with a blicking cursor at a command line and startup had to be modified to adjust for the 640K barrier :)
