Cannot pass IMG Race.

No matter what I do I cannot beat this race. I've tried 10+ times. I get a good head start, but eventually the AI catches up to me (I use IDS x2, and go around 1045) and bumps me off the track with shield collisions.

Any tips?

Do not go over a speed of 1000! At least that was a stable speed in EM before the Expansion. I have not tried a Race yet in the Expansion. Depending on the agility of your ship, wings, engines...etc a good speed is around 1000 anything over will make you drift and easy to slide of course and be bumped of course!.... Always fly with IDS on for a Race!.....;):cool:

Certainly.
With the expansion, AI's are tougher in a lot of areas, that includes races. They maintain a far higher speed than before. Maintaining a speed of around or higher than 1200 should keep you in the lead. The challenge is to steer your ship in such a way that you won't leave the track in the corners, which will take a lot of practice but is an excellent way to train your ship handling skills. You could also try and play with the throttle a bit; try slowing down before corners so you make it through safely and using your afterburner on the straights to gain some distance on your opponent. Make sure you let go of the afterburner in time to slow your cornering speed down enough to make it through the corner.

And as a general tip: just as in RL racing, the best general cornering technique is outside-inside-outside. This effectively makes the bend 'longer', allowing for higher cornering speeds and less chance of flying out.

:cool: I suggest practicing on an older computer ... one you won't miss if you get frustrated and kick it a few times.

A set IDS speed of 1000 works fine. Jump to the waypoint on compass heading Zero. Conservative afterburner bursts in the straight sections should give enough extra speed to stay out in front.

Viper is correct in saying the 'outside - inside - outside path while cornering will allow for higher turning speeds. :)

:cool: For me, 1000 kps only works after the navy pilot passes me up and I blow him away.

Literally just passed it after posting this thread. Thanks for the replies, I pretty much followed the advice given. Will be on MP a lot more now that that race is out the way with!

I appear to be unable to log in to SP6 at the present time, it says that either the IP is incorrect or the server is full? I'm assuming it's the latter. I'll be on when I can!
