2nd IMG mission

Post by Ducimus »

Words alone cannot adequately describe how much I hate this quest; And i mean fist slamming the keyboard hatred. Somehow I managed to get past this quest before, and now i find myself regretting starting over with a new pilot.

What was the magic speed number on this race again? Ive tried 998, ive tried 1200 and variations in between. In any event one of three things happens:
1.) FAILURE: NPC gets ahead of me.
2.) FAILURE: NPC gets right on my hindquarters and eventually bumps me out of the track.
3.) FAILURE: I slip out of the track because I had too much inertia.

Is this IMG questline neccessary? Will I miss anything crucial if i just don't do this BS at all? Right now, i think im up to my 10th repition of loading the game, accepting the mission, failinig, hitting alt + f4, and reloading the game again.

The quest is optional as it was made to teach pilots how to handle their ship and complete missions. The reward at the end is something you know about now if you have completed the quest before. :)

I used a lower speed then afterburners to make gains whenever necessary. That bumping trick works both ways, and if you use the afterburners he probably won't catch you. Just have to be careful not to overdo it.

I completed this contract at a speed of 1100 I believe. Maybe 1200. If you want, you can come on multiplayer and race against me, so you can practice.

I finally got it. I just kept repeating the mission until the game spawned an AI ship that was less maneuverable then my own, which is, i think, the ONLY reason i finally got passed this.

I am just not a fan of racing missions, in any game, regardless of genre. They are always, invariably, an exercise in frustration and repetition. Needless to say, this will be the last time i do one in this game.

Thanks for any advice given.

:o I feel your pain. In the original game, racing against AI was easy. In the expansion, it's much harder. Adding insult to injury is the way some guys announce how they still win every single time without breaking a sweat. Makes me wish the course ran through the middle of a star ... let the AI go first, smile when he blows up, then cancel the contract.

Ever play Star wars Galaxies expansion Jump to Light speed? It was a lot of fun. In that game, you could target specific components like engines, shoot them out, and let them drift there completely immobile. You didn't even have to destroy an engine though, as enough engine damage would slow the target down as well. I'd have done the same to the ship i was racing against if it was an option. :P

I pilot a military ship , which now is WAAAAAAAAY different from mercenary ships when it comes to speed and manueverability. I havent raced since the expansion i guess ill have to try now.
