So it seems like this kind of question is asked a lot but never really answered. Get a contract to deliver a satalight to a ship waiting in orbit (in my case its the first I.M.G. mission). Autopilot to the nav marker given only to find no ships in sight.
Furthermore is there some sort of quest marker or is it just the preset nav market you get when you take the contract and if you move it your SOL(this is not the issue I am having with my delivery mission though it would be helpful).
Yes i have checked in rear view, I am 100 units away from the marker there's nothing but battleships with no green boxes here
Thanks for any feedback, I want to love this game but i need some help to get rolling.

Suggest not using the auto-pilot toggle for package deliverys. Suggest pointing the bow/nose of your ship at the contract nav-marker, (0-0: levelled on the ecliptic and compass heading) and toggeling the F2 launch key instead. (Or where ever you've got this function mapped). My "technique" for package deliveries, once I've exited the station, is to line-up at either 90 degrees or 270 degrees to the contracts' nav-marker and "punching it" (F2-launch). What this does more often than not, is to drop me out of warp on either the port (left) or starboard (right) side of the intended/receiving Cap ship. It also presents a larger visual "target" aspect on the green delivery box underneath the receiving Cap ship. If the systems' "sun"/"star" is behind the receiving Cap ship, the green delivery box may be a bit hard to see.
These types of contracts are extremely common throughout the game environment, as you may have noticed. And, they're fairly lucrative and easy enough to complete. Suggest not placing your own nav-marker, rather use the one the contract/game software places. You may have more delivery contract completions that way...

My method is the same as Busch's until you exit the jump, heading directly towards the nose of the delivery ship. I then dive 70 degrees down for a few seconds and level out - once you get the hang of the timing you should now be heading for the green box that is also heading for you - (make any, hopefiully small, adjustments - F3 to switch to inventory (you can still see the approaching box in the background) and as you enter it jettison the cargo! F1 for Nav Map - target station - and jump - move onto the next contract.
If you miss the box or mistime the jettison, no problem - 180 turn and catch it up again - the ship will wait quite a while for you
When you get really cocky, you can target the station whilst still approaching the box and then F3 to inventory - when you have delivered you just need to jump to get back to the station.
Doing non-combat contracts as smoothly as possible is quite therapeutic!
EDIT: If you join a clan you will find yourself doing many many contracts as part of your clan chores to keep your clan's influence up in your system
Combat contracts are a whole different issue involving adrenaline and sweat

Got that one handled, for whatever reason i just didn't get a nav marker for the ship. When i loaded a save and tried again it sent me right to the thing. Now I have a different question.
i quick-save when I'm docked on a city. After the save i accept a contract buy a bunch of equipment and head out to kill some baddies. Get blown up by strangely invincible baddies and reload to try again. Only now all the equipment i bought AFTER the save is gone and the contract isn't on the list and in my "recent quest text" its at the point after accepting the contract! BUT THAT CANT BE you cant save during a contract O_o and i have no listed current contract!

Anything that happened after the save ... well, think of it as a bad dream. It never happened. Stuff you bought was never bought. Credits you spent were never spent. AI you killed were never killed. Good guys you accidently killed were also never killed.
But watch out for auto-saves. When you change ships or mod your ship ... those things stick with you. Even after you wake up from the dream.
