Missions with a lot of fighters

Post by Captain86 »

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can never seem to take on more then maybe 3 REDS at a time

Some missions have like 12, and they seem to have auto reload of missiles and never run out like I do.

I can make a pass and maybe swing around and get some shots in, but by the time I get back to that fighter that I damaged, he's already repaired mostly or 100% again.

How shall I proceed ?
Do I just need better weapons or stealth or something ?
I have low level beginner status.

First of all, check your ship. Is it made for fighting? Does it have the best shields and a good shield boost?
Do you have a weapon that has enough range? I recommend using a c1, c2 or c8 cannon and a c5 beam.

When you have your ship outfitted, you should learn to fight in inertial mode.
A good way to kill enemies for beginners is going past them at a speed of 1000-1500, and make a strafing run.
Never engage enemies head on with IDS mode on.
Also use those countermeasures, they're very important.

 Go into Lambda or Pices. Combat missions in either of those systems only require you to kill four ... and in those systems (unlike Olympus) you'll usually only encounter four at a time.

If you don't manage some hull damage on your first pass, your enemy will probably have regenerated by the time you get back.

Your enemies do run out of missiles, too, they just always have the full eight and there's a lot more of them than there are of you.

I usually make a pass, then fly backward, carefully regulating speed. As they approach, use the lateral thrusters to avoid oncoming fire. Use lasers to reduce shields, then use cannons to reduce hull.

I prefer the Maxim-R cannon because it has extended range. If you're careful, you can keep them out of cannon range while hitting them. The key is not to let too many of them get too close for too long.

Shoot down their missiles when you can, or use ECM if they get too close.
