Annoying Mission

Post by D-Rail »

So let's preface this with, yes, I've created an account to complain about something. Moving on.

I'm on what is apparently the last mission or last set of such for the IMG quest line. For those that don't know, this is a mission in the Pearl system, involves 3 waypoints with 10-12 ships per waypoint and Pearl is seriously Hostile territory. At a glance, you can say, ah big deal, if you have a good ship and know how to fly you can kill at the ships right? Right you are, but, the isn't isn't with the fact that the mission on paper isn't that big of a deal. Allow me to guide you.

It starts with the first waypoint being in the atmosphere of pearl, ok, so you have to lure these ships out into space because you WILL be destroyed in atmospheric combat with that many ships on you. Ok, easy enough, just fly out into space without getting out of radar range. Big deal. The problem: Pearl is Hostile, so what this means is the Navy and the Energy corps don't like you. This causes the two corps to have hostile ships jump in and regular intervals to deal with you. Not normally an issue on it's own, but remember, we're on a mission to deal with 10-12 rebel/guild ships. Ok, well, these factions don't like each other so the navy ships should help deal with these ships right? Wrong.

The Navy/Energy ships actually come to their aid, because they don't like you either and because you are a player character the AI thinks killing you is higher priority. So now, not only do you have the mission ships to take care of, you have to dodge the Navy/Energy ships that are now joining the enemies formation, not only just that, but on the OUTSIDE of the formation! Remember all those good tips of killing guys one at a time on the edge of a formation? Well, those are Navy ships now, the guys you are trying to raise your rep with. So now you have to try and joust in and out of this now 20-whatever ship formation trying to target the enemy ships for the mission while avoiding the barrage of missiles and hostile fire.

Did I mention they also have capital ships jump in on top of you too? Ok, so more missiles and flak cannons now to deal with... FML. SO now I'm slogging through this neverending barrage of enemies to kill the enemy ships.. phew, finally after MANY (maybe 10 or so and a couple fails?) minutes of bobbing, weaving, changing targets and finally taking them out, the first set of enemy ships is dead, now we can just run away from the navy and be done.. Oh shoot, I forgot, this is a 3 waypoint mission, YAY, just need to do this 2 more times! *facepalm Time to refuel and get more CM.

I'm on the 3rd waypoint now as I type this but I needed a break to vent. Sure, this is absolutely possible as I'm proving it right now and I can't be the only one that has had to deal with this. But I'm not here complaining about it being impossible, I'm here to mention how annoying it is. Not challenging, because it isn't a challenge to do the electric slide for 30 minutes to kill 12 out of 30+ ships that keep jumping back in. Not fun, because fun would be having been done 30 minutes ago and collecting my reward to move on to actually have fun. Yes, annoying is the word. Very, annoying.

Anywho, if you've read this far, thanks for reading and possibly laughing at me. It needed to be said. There's just no need. No need at all.

Ok, well, I finished it after I posted and was surprised at the reward. It's a good reward, no doubt, but the fact that that mission was probably the most annoying mission in the game still stands. I will say that if I wasn't flying what I was flying already I probably would have been in deep trouble and it would have been even more annoying so at least upgrades help.

Now I can move on to less annoying fun things, like jumping into moons and planets. :)

 The fun part is doing that IMG mission in multiplayer ... and getting help from a few other non-AI pilots. Yaaahhh Sheena!

That would have been ideal, but there was a quest I couldn't do in MP, so I just said forget it and did the whole thing SP :)

 One contract was all you needed to do in SP. Race against an AI. Because, in MP, you race against other non-AI players.

Hop on multiplayer, get a better ship, learn to fight properly, and you will do this mission in 5 minutes.
You're probably using a bad loadout or frame for fighting, and you lack the combat experience, so you don't really know how to kill guys quickly.

I'm sure there's plenty of guys in multiplayer willing to explain these things to you. Some things just aren't mentioned on the internets.
Most combat tutorial videos I've seen are lacking in some way.

Hi and welcome.

I understand your frustration (We have all been there) but I don't get the complaints about the mission.

I also had trouble at first but now it's pretty easy due to my many flight/combat hours. It's all about handling your ship.
I can do it in a Talon if I want. (No bragging, just stating that practice makes perfect).
You will to be able to do that after a while.

The harder the contracts are, the more challenging and fun they are imho. The reward in terms of
"Yeahhh, I did it!" is the best one you can get. Nothing beats the feeling of success.

And, yes, you can do the whole thing in atmosphere as well. I have done it both ways alone and
with others in MP just because it's fun and educational. I still do that mission from time to time.

Hang in there and join the MP for even more fun. After some PvP training AI ships will be much easier for you.

Hope to see you out there.

Hi D-Rail, glad you succeeded. You proved that a pilot can do it even if it is very hard at times. That is what I like about the Sim. I have played some Sims that have easy ways out and the fun (frustration at times here) does not last. Good luck out there. Maybe we need a "I survived PEARL" sticker for our ships.:):o:P;)

I'm in a Chimera and I had most of what I could get, the only new things I picked up after the mission was the anti missile system (not actually very good, but it does work) and the shield recharger (dangerous if not used properly, but great for tanking). I could kill the guys quickly but that didn't stop the spawn rate of the navy ships coming in to ruin the day. It was more about being careful not to get blown up by 15 missiles flying at me at once. I can blow through contracts quickly, but this was no ordinary contract.

I know how to do the electric slide and there are a lot of points now where I don't even need to joust away from formations now. I have picked things up very quickly. The mission was still annoying. There's a difference between hard and annoying. I think I died twice before I figured out what was going on. I don't complain about hard, it makes me say wow, this game is hard I'm going to feel really good after I beat it. Annoying makes me say what the **** video game, when I'm done with this I'm never doing it again.

Now, as a few have stated already, I'm sure it would have become fun if I did it in multiplayer but I didn't and it's doable in singleplayer, which means I shouldn't have to rely on other players.

Anyhow, I've kind of lost interest in the topic here, it's done it's over, I conquered lol. Thanks for the discussion guys, see you in game. :)

 I still like the "I survived" idea. I survived the default quest. I survived the quest for peace. I survived combat with Rommy. I survived my encounter with BA (bit the bullet on that one). What else ....?

I pacified Pearl first before doing the last IMG quest mission, the mission took me 3 minutes to complete! Pacifing Pearl took 2-3 hours!......;):P:P:P:P:P:P

two ?s

How do you pacify Pearl?

and what are FTs? (fulcrum torps? ... if it is fulcrums how do you have FTs ... plural ... they are real expensive )

Can you gain respcet by killing a lot of hostiles in Pearl? Or do you have to take contracts in Pearl? Is one method better than the other or easier?

By the way I fly a civilian ship ... and a good one it is. I'm saving up now for a Stealth Generator ... high dollar they are.

Thanks Marvin

I jumped over to another topic and found out my little pot of money is miniscule compared to others ... wow. I have a Starmaster with lots of good stuff on it but its taking me some time to get it and more time to save up enough for that Stealth generator.

I need to use some of those tips and tricks in that tips and tricks guide. I need to get over the idea of mining and doing an honest day's work for my money.

Have a nice day ... oh what about the pacify ? or is it in the tips guide too?

 You can't pacify a star system in multiplayer ... but you can increase your reputation with individual factions. Do contracts. Don't attack anyone you want on your side ... 'though you're more than welcome to attack Guild and Rebel pilots ... but steer clear of other "red" ships.

Wow that's excellent advice. I'm usually seeing just red ... in my mind all red was bad and I did not pay much attention to who they were.

I'll definitely be on the lookout.

You can Pacify Pearl or any Hostile System, Except Vonari Sytem, in Multiplay but it is harder and depends on what other clans or players are doing in that Hostile system you are trying to Pacify(Meaning get a Good Reputation). It just will not show in Multiplay that you have Pacified the System. You can do this by doing contracts for the Navy, Energy, Miners
and or killing all the Rebbels and Guilds in the hostile system even the Green and Yellow Rebbels and Guilds! To check how you are progressing you have to periodically check in Single Play what your reputation is!. You will notice however in Multiplay that there will be less and less reds as your reputation changes!......;)
