I'm hoping either A: Vice reads this and does my recommended changes (or at least some) or B: Somebody knows how to mod the game so these changes can happen. Basically, you all know the controls menu, three pages of just controls. Well, it's great, except when you use a gamepad.
What you get when you go to configure controls, you come to a bunch of things, on top, you get the axis controls, below that you get the configuration for the axis, and at the bottom you get keyboard, mouse and gamepad controls, you all know this if you spent ten seconds in the controls menu.
What I think should be changed, is a separation between the keyboard and gamepad controls, basically, the configure controls menu becomes this:
On top, you have a drop down menu, and it lets you choose which control set to be enabled (so at the top, keyboard and mouse, below that is your gamepad(s)), below that drop down, you have a button to go to ALL gamepad configuration, and at the bottom, is a button to go to ONLY keyboard and mouse configuration. Keyboard and Mouse config stays the same, except with the removal of the gamepad button binding.
On the gamepad configuration menu. Buttons stay the same, you choose which button does what.
For joysticks, you can use sets, Joystick 1 can control various things (The one I would pick would be controlling the ship's movements, up being the equivalent of W, left being A, etc). Joystick 2 would have the same choices. (The choice I would pick for Joystick 2 would be strafe control, but when I press down on it, it activates the cockpit view mode, as if you hit F10.)
This joystick problem is literally the entire reason I don't use my gamepad for EM.
If anyone else has ideas on changes in the controls menu, go ahead and post here. I know, there are other things that need changing more than this, and let them get done first. But I'd still like this fixed.

Can you describe why you want want to subdivide the menus like that in order to bind keys and buttons? That is, why remove the gamepad, joystick, mouse, and/or keyboard inputs at all? When their all unified, you just press the button or key you want to bind and it's all in one menu. Adding additional steps to the process by burying required options under menu trees seems counter-productive and less efficient. So maybe you can explain better what you have in mind and what issue you are trying to remedy/bypass.What I think should be changed, is a separation between the keyboard and gamepad controls, basically, the configure controls menu becomes this:

This part of your post sounds like you want to bind gamepad joystick (thumbstick) controls to binary on/off control inputs. Is that correct? In theory, it could be possible to limit axis inputs to static on/off inputs, and indeed some gamepads I know of provide such options in their configuration menus. But in terms of the game, it might be possible to set something like that up by simply polling the axis channels during a button binding, then using 50% or so in one direction or another to activate a static on/off control. But with all of the available variable control functions the game offers (and benefits from using), would you really want to limit those controls to WASD and mouse look on/off?On the gamepad configuration menu. Buttons stay the same, you choose which button does what.

I'm not asking for removal of controls in keyboard and mouse controls, all I really need is a little change in the Gamepad customization, everything I do in EM, I've been able to program it to my Gamepad, except the one joystick thing. I just want it so I can have it change the set of controls for the joystick when I press it down. My Logitech Gamepad F310 has a mode button for the D-Pad (or joystick, I don't use it much, so I forgot.), I'll see if i can change that. What you described about the axis channel polling, I don't exactly understand. I don't know much about gamepad customization. From post: 143180, Topic: tid=9712, author=Vice wrote:Can you describe why you want want to subdivide the menus like that in order to bind keys and buttons? EDIT: I just found out what the Mode button does, it just swaps controls between the D-Pad and the left joystick.

Not sure how feasible such an option would be to implement yet, but you should be able to achieve what you're after currently using the Logitech Profiler. Instructions on how to map the thumbsticks are available here: http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app ... 694#Gaming And the download is available via the tab at the top of the menu, in case you don't already have it.

use the profiler? Well that means I have to find the disk, I just uninstalled it the day before I made this topic. Or use the link.
