New player two questions

Post by Cybrdroyd »

I was playing the demo and I accepted a mission to locate a missing object for the navy. I flew to the coordinates I was given and when I got there, I didn't find anything but a bunch of ships passing through.

1. Is there a mission journal I can bring up to read my objectives?

2. What am I supposed to do in this mission?

Also, I am buying this game and I am getting the logitech extreme 3D pro joystick just to play this game. I have been waiting for a freelancer-like game for a long time. I tried eve online, too complex, too time consuming and the players are assholes. I have also played X2 in the past, I loved that game. Are there any known issues that anyone is aware of with this joystick?

Thanks for the help, can't wait til I get paid so I can buy this game. I have been using the xbox 360 controller and it works pretty good, but a full on flight stick will be better for me. (I have birth defects, very small hands)

Push F3 and read the "CURRENT MISSION" info. On these search and find mission all you have to do is "with IDS off" push f2 to jump to a preset mission point (after you take the mission) and float through space until you see a new blip on the lower center 3d radar. Aim your ship towards that (turn on IDS for this part ) and when you get close to the object you will see it and when you pass close or bump it the mission should state "Mission Complete". Not sure about that Joystick. Welcome to the forum and hopefully the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you in "Multi-Player" sometime. :)

I use the X3d pro. I also have the sensitivity in the provided profiler tweaked as well as the in game sensitivity.
I had to set the game's .exe icon into the profiler and launch from the profiler in order for the settings to work. If I touch any buttons to cancel the game intro, or do anything other than select my pilot profile and what server I want to play on, the profiler settings get cancelled. Also adjusting anything controls related in the in game menu, (dead zone, sensitivity) also overrides the profiler settings. The sensitvities in this game are pretty high even on the lowest in game settings so if the profile gets cancelled I have a real hard time with precise control.

Other than that It's pretty well built. And for roughly 30$ U.S. it's a decent value. Am I completely satisfied with it? Not really. However I am satisfied enough to use it until it's absolutely nessecary to replace it - ie: it breaks.

Hope this helps.:)

:o I never use a joystick profile ... not for this or the old Rumble Stick. The in-game settings work just fine on both civvy and military ships.

Probably because our play styles are very diferent Marv.;) Also I don't think the manufacturing tolerances for this particular stick are very stringent. Everybody I know who uses this stick can describe idiosyncracies they have found that other owners don't have. One player might get a stick that has a very 'stiff' feel, while mine on the other hand has a little bit of 'play' in the spring. For me a Chimera will behave like an Evoch-E if I don't use the profiler. Right down to getting chucked about like an Evoch when recieving fire.

 You're probably right about quality control but, as for getting chucked around, I always play first-person and getting chucked around is part of the game. In fact, it's worse with the Rumble Stick ... but, hey, that's what makes it so much fun.

I always play first-person too, but my point was that a heavy class ship gets shaken alot less than a light class ship - unless it's me in the heavy class ship with my joystick profiler not working. Then it all seems to 'feel' the same! :)

Thanks for all the replies.

After I posted this, I did manage to find a video on the starwraith website that actually shows how to locate the object in the radar.

I'm looking forward to purchasing this game in a couple of days. I chose this joystick for the large number of programmable button and the hat for looking around inside the cockpit. I had one of these joysticks a while ago but after not playing any games that used it I wound up giving it to a friend. Made my friend pretty happy. $30 well spent. So now I got to get another one, heh.

Ya, I will be flying with the cockpit view for realism. I also like the large number of ship customization options.

:o Okay. I just find it a lot less of a bumpy ride with the Logitech ... it not having force feedback. The Rumble Stick shakes the whole table.

I'm not refuting you or putting down the product Marv. I'm just talikng about my experiences with the X3d pro.
If Cybr decides that the profiler is best used for his style of play I might be able to 'pre-solve' any problems he may have with it seemingly not working correctly. Point taken about the rumble stick though. I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to convey.:)

 No, you were right. Maybe I was just lucky to get one of the better-built Logitechs. But quality control is certainly something to take into account.

The before or after is relatively related to the time required to figure out that you forgot to plug it in!......;):P:cool:

:o It never works to plug in after the fact. It's like closing the barn door after the horse is already out to pasture.

I never claimed it would work after the fact. When you forget to plug it in before, you will look for the joystick icon and controller testing before starting the game and at that point you will realise you forgot to plug it in while testing the joystick(I always do before starting any game). Or you forget about the Joystick altogether and start the game and find out after starting the game that it is not plugged in. I merely stated the relative time of discovery of it not being plugged in!....;):P:cool:

I bought the full game, and my joystick is in transit. I am playing with the xbox 360 controller for now, its workable, but I think the joystick will be a lot better.

I don't quite understand what to do when I get a distress call. I tried to input the coordinates in the nav screen but, the crosshairs indicating my current waypoint don't change. So far this part doesn't feel that intuitive so I think I need a little nudge in the right direction.

Hi and welcome.

You can't enter the coords for the distress calls. They are often in another system.

You must read the Distress call carefully and check what they need and where.
Hurry to the location with the items they require and dock at the right location.
Could be a station or a city on a planet. Or it's a rescue mission to a ship in distress.
Locate it and dock with it to finish it.

The key is to read carefully what and where!

Good luck!;)

So you can only click a spot on the nav map and jump to that spot? Hm...

Not really what I meant.

If you need to go to another system, you need to use the gates.
If you enter the coords manually, you will not use the gates.

When you reach the system you are supposed to deliver in, you can enter the coords manually
and use the autopilot.
