Did I cheat?

Last night while playing I found myself at a station paying 27,000 to have 20 units of anti-matter delivered to a nearby ship.

I accepted the contract and noticed that the anti-matter itself is worth 29,000. I sold the cargo and then was able re-acquire the exact same contract.

Is this cheating?

Nope. But it also means you got 0 contract credit and 0 reputation credit, so your future pay is effected by your decision to abandon the contract and sell off the material. Contracts earn more for you than just credits and they effect your long term reputation and pay.

Hi PVZ - welcome to the game and to the forum

When I first started, a contract would pay me, say, 20K credits. Because I have lots of experience points and a reputation for completing contracts the same contracts now pay ten times that amount.

Try the same contract in co-op ... with a high-ranking veteran accepting the contract. Make note of the difference in pay (you both get paid the same amount). Then think about how you will never, ever get that much money per contract* ... unless you start completing contracts instead of selling off the goods for a quick profit.

* Edit: When doing them solo.
