Whats the best way to find the Hidden Items/places?

Post by Alaric »

Ive been messin around trying to find some hidden items. I was just wondering if you sci ops at skill 100 will point out ALL the hidden places he picks up or if there are hidden things you must manually find? The main pain for me is seaching planets, u can see much from space and you can only go 1500 max in atmosphere so it takes FOREVER.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Alaric, welcome to the game and forum!...Hope to see you out there some time!...;)

Maybe a sticky for this topic can be made in the Guide for New Players. There are some methods and sites where you can find all the information you need. One is Seejay's junholt website!

If someone will post a detailed reply that gives a lot of helpful instructions, I'll add it.

thanks for the site :) I checked it out but its more for people who just wanna go to the spot, not explore. I di bookmark it tho cuz theres tons of useful stuff.

Im hoping someone will post some advice on looking though as it sounds neat. all I do now is hope my sci ops points me in the right direction, then i follow the purple dot to the prize.

There is a container finder (Excel) on my site that will help you and your
SciOps finding stuff.

For exploring I suggest using Atollskis Navdata program.

As a hint when searching for new stars. Whatch the reflections on your ship in 3rd persons view;)

Welcome by the way.

No, but they are new systems with planets and stuff.

Don't think that what you see on your map is all. Far from it ;)

With 'new' stars, SeeJay means 'undiscovered stars'. Most planets revolve around stars. Stars give off light, which you can see reflecting on certain surfaces. Use this to look in the right directions, and you might just find a new system. I just found an undiscovered system the other day which has not been logged anywhere. It's pretty cool.

Best advice is: be patient!

ok so i wanna explore this a bit more. So if Im in Cerulean for example. In cerulean ther is just that string of stuff in the middle of the quadrant right. So to find a new star do i just drive in a random direction and then check for a reflection? I have already driven off in random directions but its alwys empty..and lonely :P...but is that the right thing to do? just drive randomly and hope for a star reflection?

Thanks for all the prompt advice btw :)

Taking off in one direction for what seems like forever is what some of us have been doing for years. I still have not seen everything out there.:)

Just make sure you use autopilot, have a mantis drive, and have a means of refueling.

Alaric think the whole EM universe as treasure map, go find and claim, so i guess yes you could do it that way, shipwrecks asteroid caves floating cargoes etc etc. go find and claim fellow explorer! :):):)

:o Without Atollski's intergrated program, you've kind'a wasting your time. Get it. Install it. Activate it. Then go off in whatever direction you want.

 As for finding stuff as indicated by the science officer, either use SeeJay stand-alone worksheet or deploy a sensor array. Most (if not all) hidden objects show up if they are within the sensor's bubble. One possible exception might be objects hidden within an asteroid cave. For those, keep a close eye on your radar as you explore the cave.

Atollski's tool is an incrediblly handy tool, but mind you that it will do most of the work for you. For some (like me) it does take some of the fun out of exploring and doing all the navigating and searching yourself.
It's a choice you make. More realism, or more result. ;)

I would have to disagree with that. In fact I have found more and found things faster just by using my eyes.
There is a ship wreck on one of the planets in the Pearl system clearly visible from space and as for stars, light travels along way in space and remember where there is light there are shadows.
Use your science officer, use your probes or sensor arrays and use your head. Then you'll be finding things quite often.

 I stand corrected, MiaZ. I was thinking in terms of finding new star systems ... not smaller objects. But for discovering new planets, using Atoll's program makes it easier ... but (for me, anyway) not entirely too easy. You still must figure out which way to go for the second and third cuts.

But I was talking about finding star systems as well.
Even that hidden pearl planet is visible from many sector away and
Stars are visible too from a distance but in a completely different way.

:o For the "stars are visible from a distance" statement, I'll need a little more data ... maybe a screenshot. If true, it would have a major impact on something I've been working on.

Well the stars themselves can not be seen from hundreds of sectors away as a pinprick of light or anything like that, but light casts shadows and they can be seen on the ship in external view or cockpit.
Maybe if you could turn the ambient light right down low, so any light you see must be coming from a star, it would be clearer then.

 Yeah, I can see where that might work if you're headed toward the outer edges ... beyond known stars. It might get more confusing, though, when looking for a new star which is between two other known stars.

Wow thanks for all the great tips guys! I think I will go the sensor probe route as I have an aversion to mods (not saying they are bad) and hours to kill at work lol.

Youre all so damn polite :P
