Stations?

So I'm an unclanned player in Multiplayer playing on the server Evochron Horizons. I want to build my own trade station. I don't know why, I just want one of my own. I know how to do so, and I have the means, but I need to understand how they work before I pick a location. What does building a station do for me? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

a) Provides a free license
b) Is a fast way to get gas in deep space
c)) No C

Your station with the license then gives you goods to buy at a discount so then you can sell them at others stations at a higher price for profit. :)

So stations themself provide no economical benifiets to the AI? IE if I put 50 trade stations in a sector, its going to have no effect on the economy of the original station?

the research centers provide better variety of items in the stat you build, but the AI wont benefit from it :)
