Can you be a Pirate in Evochron Mercenary???

Post by BillytheCrayon »

Hey. I'm new to this game. Thinking of buying it, but i have some questions first.

I am looking for a space sim like this, that allows you to be a pirate.

1. Can you attack civilian ships, like transport/cargo ships, mining vessels, and the like.

2. Can you order people to jettison their cargo, and leave it behind (steal their stuff without destroying them)

3. How do factions deal with this? Would I be red flagged across the entire galaxy, and not have a place to sell off my stolen goods??? How hard do those factions come after ya???

4. Are there uncontrolled sectors of space??? Places where ships may travel, that no faction can really protect, which makes it perfect hunting grounds for pirates???

5. Can you steal other peoples ships???

6. Any form of subsystem targetting??? kill someones engines so they cannot leave, or their weapons so they are left defenseless???

Billy

Lots of questions to answer before the update has loaded!

1. Yes, but their allies will get a little upset and you will be the target for lots of guilds.

2. No but you can bribe them. Can't remember how that works. I don't do it . I just blow them up!!!

3. The universe is huge. Took 1 pilot 140 hours of real time to cross it. Once you get of the main lanes I think there is quite a bit of nothing. But you can build stations to buy/sell there.

4. Yes and no. Clans have claimed control of certain sectors, but that does not mean you cannot go around doing things there. Check the server rules, but most have very few rules.

5. No. Just blow them up. You need credits and skills to upgrade your own.

6. Yes. You can target Weapons, Engines and Navigation, and there are certain missile type which target specific areas, including Kinetic, which when they hit you throw you all over the place so its hard to target your enemy.

Good luck and see you out there sometime.

Your questions i think are best answered on a server to server basis. Each server has a different set of rules and as such you would be able to do something on some and not on others.

For Evochron Horizons

1. Yes, as long as 1. They are NPC, 2. You roleplay a pirate fully and this means no Shoot first then ask questions tactics. Evochron Horizons is a Roleplay server and we do not allow Random Death Matching. However if you ask someone to drop their loot and they refuse you can drop their shields for instance and if they try to escape you could finish them off as long as it is all roleplayed.

2. Absolutely so long as you RP it.

3. Pirating in clan owned systems is in most cases frowned upon but what pirates are not hated and feared? Now this does not mean you cannot sell your loot you will normally be able to still dock and trade at all stations after fighting in a system.

4. War fronts are almost never controlled, they are generally also the best place to get military ranks for better military frames. People also frequent these sectors to do just that. There are also sub sectors in all the systems as well and normally these would also fit your criteria how ever they are still considered in clan space.

5 and 6 were answered perfectly by Dengar.

Thanks for all the answers guys. this makes me very interested in this game.

Most of these answers were geared more for Multiplayer, sorry if I made it sound like I was talking about multiplayer gameplay, I was mostly referring to a single player game, and talking about AI behaviors.

Regardless, I have already purchased the game on steam, and I am diving head first into the extremely difficult learning curve hehe. I will definitely need to sort out the combat system, and figure out how not to die in seconds after i encounter an enemy before anything hehe.

In the case of single player, If you shoot an AI ship you might see them send a trade request when you get in range to go for the kill. Tha AI is attempting to either bribe you to leave them be or is trying to delay you in hopes help will arrive on time. Keep in mind that when RED AI spots you they transmit for reinforcements.

Thank you for that piece of information. That will come in very handy.

And knowing that it is possible to be bribed to leave someone alone, means i think piracy could be possible. The Danger of them calling for help will make things interesting.

"Welcome Aboard BillytheCrayon"....In single player you can change your status in the different systems to good or hostile. Playing a pirate will definitely turn your system red, so I would pick the best systems to have them in the good (color green) this way you will have someplace that will pay you top dollar for your goods that you picked up without having every ship attacking you in a Hostile system (color Red).

3. The universe is huge. Took 1 pilot 140 hours of real time to cross it. Once you get of the main lanes I think there is quite a bit of nothing. But you can build stations to buy/sell there.
That's good to know as i was thinking about this the other day wondering how long it would take to cross it without warping. Wait, did the guy that did it in 140 hours warp? (Also, is he crazy?) Cause i was thinking more of like, boosting into inertial flight at a really high speed (like 4000 or soemthing) and then trying to cross the whole thing. I had estimated it would take at least 200 hours....

Yes, he is a little crazy LOL.

That was with warping 10 sectors / jump.

If you fly on inertia, it would take forever LOL.
Time yourself drifting 1 whole sector.
Then multiply it with 250 000 sectors (Yes, that's what he did;))
