Any way to form a squad/clan/whatever so friends can know where they are?

Post by Vahnkiljoy »

A friend and I got the game and so far are enjoying it, looked around the faqs and whatnot for some more info for multiplayer like is there a way to form a squad or clan or something so we can find each other no matter where we are? My friend WANTED to be a combat pilot but he kind of started no where near where I(miner/trader) started which kind of irked him.

Hi Vahnkiljoy, to find another player push the ~ key. That will show a list of players on-line at the time in the upper right side of your screen. It will show many items in regard to them like Civie and Military rank, their fps, call sign and system coordinates. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you in Multi-Player sometime.:) If you want to form a Clan, pick a name or use initials such as My clan which is "Universe Explorers" [UE]. Put the name between [ and ] brackets in front of your call sign. The server will then give your group credit for areas you control.;)

If I get your meaning then not at this time. The missiles you fire will track your target until the target is destroyed then they go after the next enemy (if any left) then they go after the nearest ship which I think is how most missiles react. There is no self destruct control at this time but one way to override or confuse the missile is for you to repeatedly click the "select next target" button until the missiles run out of fuel.:(

Well no I mean, I was out mining an asteroid field when my friend said on vent that he got a quest to destroy 20 asteroids, so he came to where I was and I was helping him out, but if he got anywhere near my targeting reticle I would fire AT him and lock onto him with missles. I don't WANT to do that, is there no way to group up to prevent that?

Sorry but not at this time. You may get a laugh out of this but many of us have been sitting at a station chatting when we hit the wrong key and send our missiles down the throat of the person we meant to say something to.:P:D:o:P:D

 Odd that you managed to shoot each other with guns ... missiles are a different story (but who blows up asteroids with missiles?). Auto-targeting is a function of the MDTS and can be disengaged ... doing so might keep you and your buddies from shooting each other. If that doesn't help. then get closer to an asteroid before firing ... and have your buddy blow up a different asteroid (one pilot - one asteroid ... that's all it takes ... goes faster that way).

Hi Vahnkiljoy, welcome to the game and forum. Another way to do this is to all link up with the clan link feature so you are all green to each other and do not target each other so your missiles will go to the nearest red or yellow target instead of your green friends!...LOL....;):P:P:P:P:P

To use clan link you have to have a clan tag before your call sign in between brackets. For example the Bad Aliens clan tag is [BA]. So Bossk who is a member of [BA] although he claims to be the leader, but Dengar an other member always disputes that, his Profile in multiplay to use clan link would be "[BA] Bossk". Now to activate the clan link target each other and press the numberpad - Key......;)

What IS clan link? We targetted each other and hit - but nothing happened that we saw. More info on stuff like this would be neat.

Clan link is another word for identifying yourself as part of a clan, this is done in the pilot manager where you create your pilot. Everything is described in detail as Maars pointed out. The brackets are basically an ID tag for clan activities. This helps to avoid friendly fire with friends, as they appear green to you and on your radar otherwise your friend will appear red or hostile.

I changed my keyboard missile launch key (it was shift) because of that - diplomatic negotiation with a foe isn't helped by 8 excaliburs from a range of 70!! :D

Sorry, my bad. The clan link number pad - Key is for linking members of different clans. For example if 2 different squadrons of 2 different clans wanted to do coop missions and wanted to be friendly(Green) to each other they could link together so in heat of combat the missiles would go to the red hostile targets instead of the other clan you are doing a coop mission with.

By using a clan tag you would Automaticaly be Green(friendly) to your clan mates and Red to any other clan member.....;)

Just a clarification on Clan linking

By default, when clan members enter a server, they are already linked by being friendly as represented in the color green via the HUD

By default also, are all clan members linked when accepting contracts? Or must a clan member target a fellow clan member and press numpad (-)

I noticed that sometimes this when a fellow clan mate accepts a contract I also get the contract without us having to press numpad (-)

But another instance, I had to go to a fellow clan mate and had to link with him because he wasn't getting the contracts that I was accepting

 Everybody who is in the same sector should be getting credit for a contract. If it's the cash payout for owning territory, only clan members get paid ... no matter where they are.
