Background Nebulas

Quick question about these:

Are they just for looks, or can you actually get to them? (I'm refering to the giant blue and green looking things in the saphire system) Thanks

I think they're just for looks. I wondered the same thing but I noticed they don't seem to change no matter where you are. I was quite far away from Sapphire and I saw the same nebulas, the lack of parallax indicates it's probably just scenery built into the skybox.

But don't take my word for it, I'm a newb.

The "background nebulae" are just that, background and eye-wash. There are nebulae in-game that aren't, and all may be flown into and thru. Some have objets d'arte (hidden/obscured items), some are "lumpy" (asteroids), some where ye jist cain't fire yer missiles (high-energy nebulae). Not every system has nebulae as part of the system's "furnishings". One may turn off the background nebula effect in the Options menu, if desired. Hope this helps some.

Some of the best graphic mods are replacements for the default background nebulas.
