Not sure which to buy

Post by FarscapeFanBoy »

I'm on disability and can afford only one game next month, so should it be Alliance or Mercenary? Wondering where they differ. Thanks.

BTW I'm pestering my steam friends to buy your games. All I have to do is show them your training videos on Youtube and they see how much you care about the game and the players and they're immediately interested. Plus, they're mostly Shattered Horizon vets and love GOOD space games.

One friend joked about your videos: "... his voice...it emenates handsomeness and intelect"

LOL

Hi FarscapeFanBoy, I loved that show.

If you can only buy 1 I'd say go for Mercenary. This is because it has a great MP component that is persistant, as well as provides more hours of play-time for the money.

However, Arvoch is a blast to play, and has wing commanding options that Mercenary doesn't, so its really up to you whether you want an endless sand-box game, or more structured military campaign game.

also, welcome to the forum!

I would go with Mercenary. With more to do and places to go and explore.
Arvoch Alliance is a blast and imo the combat is more challenging but its combat only game.
Mercenary also will have 24/7 servers to play on. A big Plus!
Best bet is try the demo for both of them.
That should help you make up your mind.

Hi and welcome.

EM was released in October 2010, but has been updated continuously since then!;)

I am wondering why the Alliance game seems to look better. I assume you use the same game engine. Also, is DX10 or higher eventually going to be implemented for either game? Shattered Horizon spoiled me. :D

It just was made available on steam a few months ago.

But like others said it was released in 2010 by the Developer and was not available on steam till a few months ago!....;)

Yes, the Graphics are a little bit better in Aliance, but other things have been sacrificed in the game to have better Graphics that are better in Evochron Mercenary like the freedom to fly seemless from sector to sector and the Navmap shows more sectors in Mercenary. In Arvoch Aliance you only see 1 Sector at a time and that is the sector of the mission you are working on!.....;)

Hi FarscapeFanBoy and welcome to the forums.

Evochron Mercenary's official description is 'Freeform Trading, Racing, Exploration & Combat Simulator'. Arvoch Alliance is a 'Advanced First-Person 3D Space Combat Simulator'.
So, in EM the emphasis lies more on the open-ended sandbox principle, whereas AA is more focused on mission-based combat.

The graphics in AA are slightly better, since I recall Vice mentioning a new graphics engine for AA. However, there is an expansion for EM coming up, and part of that expansion will be a graphics improvement.

If you wanna know what I'd do: I'd definitely go for EM.

Good luck with your choice and hope to see you online some time!

Hello FanBoy! Yep, it's pretty much like they said. It really depends on whether you want a strictly mission based combat sim - AA or a go anywhere do anything plus get to duke it out type sim EM.

Also EM is awaiting an upcoming Expansion which will allow for graphical improvements, a 'weapons lab', and Mech - Warrior style combat on planetary surfaces!
