Steam Newb - Pirates

Post by BlackWyvern »

Ok, so I've been playing on a dedicated server with a friend of mine for a while now, and we've gotten sovereignty of one system upto 100% for our clan. However, even with the system under our control, station permits and multiple player structures plopped around space, we have been under attack by an endless stream of Guild and Rebel pirates. Just as soon as we finish off the lot of them, another group for 20-30 warp in and resume attacking us. It's made playing the game very annoying, and very difficult.

So, question is, is there like some kind of hidden starbase we need to destroy to end this ridiculousness, or do pirates just attack you without cause or reason infinitely until you finally quit the game out of frustration?

Can vary depending on where you are. You can choose a more remote location that isn't such a high target or avoid fighting them altogether (simply stay out of their way, fly fast to avoid entering weapon range, meet at jump points when travelling rather than flying slowly to destinations making you an easier target to keep track of, use cloaking devices, etc).

A more remote location sounds like it might be the best bet, because we're currently holed up in Lambda. It's also very hard to avoid combat when every 5 minutes the pirate swarm attacks us while we're in station. They're not particularly difficult to kill, but it's just annoying that we have to go as far as accepting a combat contract, both of us warping to location and starting the mission, distracting the pirates, and then having one of us warp back with the constructor to actually accomplish anything.

There has to be a point when there's too many pirate spawns.

Hi BlackWyvern, welcome to the game and forum...Hope to see you out there some time!...

You can also try to get a Good reputation for your clan in the system you are having trouble in by killing all the Rebels and Guild in that system and keep doing contracts for the Navy, Miners, and Energy. You will not know if your reputation has changed in a System till you check it in Single Play. If in Single play your reputation is good the influx of Rebbel and Guild Pirates should stop but both you and your friend have to have a Good reputation in Single Player mode for the influx to stop! In Multiplay your reputation change will not show the change and always will show hostile in Multiplay if it was hostile from the beginning! You will notice the change in reputation when the amount of pirate influx changes drastically in Multiplay!......;)

 For each star system, there is a level of hostility ... as indicated on the right-hand side of the nav map. Build your empire in a Good (green) system to begin with. After you get used to dealing with rebels, you can expand into systems less friendly.

@Maarschalk

I do believe that is the problem there..

Neither of us actually play single player. Played multi from the start.

News Pannel shows
Energy -- 100%
Navy -- 100%
Rebel -- 0%
Guild -- 0%
Miner -- 95%

With a Fair rating in the map console.

 A "Fair" rating is the next one up from "Good" ... meaning very few Reds to fight. Sometimes it takes five or ten minutes to clear out a sector. But, if another player enters that same sector, more Reds will follow ... and you will need to destroy them as well.

What your actual reputation rating is is shown only in Single Play.
So both you and your friend should check in Single Play what your actual rating is. It does not change anything just to check!...;)

Single Player - Mine
Rep: Good
EN 100
NV 100
RB 0
GD 0
MN 91

Friend
Rep Good
EN 100
NV 100
RB 1
GD 1
MN 98

Either way, it sounds like we shouldn't be getting attacked the way we are.

Nope, you should not be attacked as much unless what I stated does not apply to clans. Try removing both you and your friends clan tag in Multiplay and see if the attacks stop. I have never been in a clan so I don not know if Clan Dynamics are different reputation wise from Individuals. So removing your clan tags temporarily is one way to find out and to rule out that something is wrong with the games reputations settings!....;)
