Looking for advice on Mining.

Post by Subliminal846 »

Hello,
I started playing yesterday and was wondering how to increase my mining efficiency?

I got the 5 Cargo upgrade.
And I hired a Trade: Science OP or something.

Hiring him seemed to increase my harvest speed but i couldn't hire more than one.
So is there any crew I should get to increase mining speed?
Or anything I should look to buy?

I'm not an expert on crews since I never bothered to get one and have since only flown military frames, but there are tractor beams for sale which are designed to mine only a specific mineral. For example, you can get the Diamond Mining Beam. This beam only picks up on diamonds and will not fill your cargo bays with any other stuff.

Lots of other players can tell you a thing or two about how to best utilize crews.

Hi Subliminal846, welcome to the game and forum...Hope to see you out there some time!

You can only hire one crew member of each trade/profession, you can not have 2 Engineers for Example!.....;)
And the other ways to speed up mining is like Viper suggested and a third is to keep straffing your mining beam.....;)

I don't have an answer since my experisence is playing an hour with the demo =)

But I do have another related question. I want to buy the game but the only think stopping me is that I love mining and all i could find was these 25 units cargo bays. Is 25 max? I tried loads to google if there are better upgrades but I could only find somone complaining on the max of 25...

So Will I be able to upgrade my cargo hold beond 5x25 in the full game? Would be pain going back and forth massive amount of times with small bays

Five cargo holds is max. But it will get you the credits you need to expand your horizons (and your options) very quickly.

Hi Swipen, welcome to the game and forum...Hope to see you out there some time!...

5x25=125 is the maximum. Having said that there are many ways to make mining and trading profitable with that minimal amount of Cargo Space. I have some trade runs that can cash me 30-40 million in credits in a few minutes....it takes a while to learn all the tricks and find all the stuff but the learning part and discovery is part of the fun of the game!....;)

Welcome. Be advised that the crew will happily leave your employment if they feel they are not getting paid enough. Try and get their loyalty to 100% but paying them more that the going rate. They will stay with you - most of the time, but like all employers/captains, you must keep your crew happy otherwise they will just leave at the next station.

Hope to see you out there sometime.
