Jump drive bug?
Hi Just bought the game and seems pretty good but I can't seem to complete any missions at all.
When ever I get a mission such as 'clean the solar array' or 'deliver materials to a location' I get a mission failed message whenever I use the jump drives to get close. Is this a bug? Am I not allowed to use jump drives during a mission?
What's going on here?

you are perfectly allowed to jump in order to get to your mission location. A question: how exactly do you jump? Do you use Alt-F2, which lets your ship jump its maximum distance, or do you only use F2, which jumps the ship to the mission waypoint?
You should do the latter and if you do, it should place you exactly on the mission waypoint. Whenever you accept a mission (contract), the game automatically places a waypoint at the mission destination. all you have to do to get there is hit F2 and the ship jumps there.

Jump drive bug?
Hi thanks for the quick reply!
I use F2 only but still get a 'contract objective failed' message whenever I jump. If I don't jump, which takes ages, I can complete the mission fine.

Hmm that's curious. Could you please give a detailed description of the events and your actions around the time the problem occurs? Adding some screenshots may prove useful as well.
Myself or someone else will get back to you with advice.

Jump drive bug?
No problem,
I've just bought the game from Steam and completed the training missions fine without any bugs. When I start a new campaign as a mercenary I dock with the nearest station and select a new contract, usually race, cleaning a solar array or delivering a package to a spaceship. I leave the station and jump to the mission waypoint. Immediately on arrival I get the mission failed message. This only happens when I use jump engines.
I'm not sure a screenshot will help!
If this is a new bug I guess others who've recently bought it will start posting about this. I'm gonna go check the Steam forum as well in case it's a problem unique to the Steam version.
I'm gutted as this looks like a pretty interesting X3/Elite type game.

Jump drive bug?
Is this in multiplay online or single play?
There are several reasons why a mission would fail when using jump drive!
1. Jumping out of sector when contract is active. Check destination coords in your nav map before jumping that they match the sector you are in. Pay special attention to the SY coordinate, and make sure your pitch is 0. It can happen also that in a certain sector the waypoint is set close to a bordering sector constantly so that when you jump you just cross the border into an adjacent sector......
2. In multiplay when another player in the same sector jumps out of the sector when contract is active!

Jump drive bug?
Hi,
This happens in single player, I've not tried multiplayer to see if it's happening there as well. Think I'll leave it a few days and see what comes up on the Steam forums.
Thanks for all your help guys!

This. Many new players in starting sector trying to figure things out, crashing into asteroids, and jumping all over the place. From post: 123769, Topic: tid=8340, author=Maarschalk wrote:Is this in multiplay online or single play?

This may not help you but you do not have to set any jump points when you take a mission as the game sets one for you. All you should need to do is pick the mission and hit the f2 key without any other actions on your part. If you pick your own jump point it may make the mission fail. Assuming you are in Sapphire, if it's busy, go to another quieter station and try from there; you'll either have solved it or at least eliminated the "too many people around" explanation!

It does help me, It's weird but even when I plot a jump point right on top of the mission waypoint it gives me a mission failled message.
I've just stopped doing that and using the f2 key without plotting anything.
I guess that as a very new player I just need to learn the games eccentricities.
I've not yet tried multiplayer but when I've played single player more I give it a go. Do you get many players online at the same time, is there an upper limit?

Hi and welcome dave.
The server has a max of 35 players.
Now it's maxed out many times after the release on Steam.
Hope to see you out there.

This suggests to me that when you plot a jump point by clicking on the Navmap close to the waypoint you might be plotting a waypoint advertenly in a nother sector!. The NavMap clicking you need to get used to and think in three dimensions. You might be clicking 1 sector above the waypoint instead of insector above the waypoint. Any time you set a waypoint out of sector and jump to that waypoint that mission will fail! From post: 123893, Topic: tid=8340, author=dave146 wrote:Hi thetiebers,From post: 123799, Topic: tid=8340, author=thetiebers wrote:This may not help you but you do not have to set any jump points when you take a mission as the game sets one for you. In the NavMap your Sx, Sy, Sz, are your sector coordinates if these differ from the sector the contract or mission is in and you jump to that your contract/mission will fail. The X, Y, Z coordinates are your positional coordinates in the sector your in and only these supose to change for missions and contracts! Hope this helps explain the problem!.....
