where is the main storyline quest

hello, iv been playing for a bit but iv run into some trouble

i cant seem to find the mission given to me by the IGM, according to a tutorial i was reading it should say ***IGM*** above the contracts list on the planet surface city, (the asterixes are there on purpose)

is the problem with the game or is it somewhere between the computer and my chair?

Not sure what the problem is but the combat pilot start gives you a military ship and you need to be flying a Civilian ship for the IMG quest to start.
So if you started as combat pilot will need to travel to New Hope at Sapphire and sell it for a civilian frame.

To answer your question... If your profile has a fighter pilot start I don't think you can do the IMG quest, but I could be wrong.

yes, you can get the IMG quest to start and you will also have a
bonus to your bank account after swapping ships to the first civilian frame.

Hi Tk5800thesecond, welcome to the game and forum. Yes, you need a civilian ship frame to do the quest I believe or start your career as a mercenary.....

SeeJay has a website ... at it is a guide giving you "hints" as to where certain parts of the quest can be found. And each quest contract can only be gotten at a specific sector in a specific star system. Each message will tell you where to go next ... but, if you delay between IMG contracts, you might forget (and the "Display Last Message" option doesn't always help). That's when SeeJay's website comes in handy.

This is a good time to use the Search function. Just search for any entry by SeeJay ... the link to his website is in his sig.

While in-game, press F3 for inventory, select News Console, and look for last quest message.
