Suggestions on a flight stick?
Hey there everyone. I'm new to the game and am wondering how well a flight stick works with EM and alos if anyone has any suggestions on a good but not too expensive one.
I've played a lot of the X series and found the keyboard and mouse to work very well with it so I never bothered looking into a stick. I've never owned one and I've only used one minimally a few times over the last decade so I'm not too sure what I should be looking for.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I'm loving this game, I can't believe how I'd never heard of it before!

Welcome jerrypocalypse
Like Dingo says I've used both the x52 pro and x45. both are excellent sticks. Some say the discontinued x45 is better. I find the reverse is true IMO. Your pick should have a few top hats and lots of buttons. Separate stick and throttle is nice. It does pay to get what you want rather than find out you want more later. IMO a joystick is a must for this game.

Most seem to use the X45, X52 or X52 Pro! I use the regular X52 it takes getting used to but once you have calibrated and set it up the way you want you won't regret it!;)

Awesome, thanks for the replies and thanks for the welcoming Flash!
I did a quick Amazon search and I see that the X-52 and X-52 Pro are about the same price. Are they comparable function wise? Does one seem to work better than the other? I'm kind of leaning toward the Pro.
And one other related question. While using the flight stick, do the keyboard and mouse remain usable for shortcuts and menu use?
And thanks again for the replies!

I use the same style paper weight as Mr Muchtalk (aka X52) and it is a very capable stick. Well worth an investiment.

Ahoy Jerry!
Logitech Extreme 3D pro is a great stick and works perfectly in this game.
Very easy to program and blasts and steers as good as any X-Factor stick at a cheaper cost.
Any of the above stick recommendations are great choices.

So I went ahead and ordered the X-52 Pro and it should be here tomorrow (Thursday). We'll see how good I am at mapping it.
And thanks again for all the welcomings! I can tell I'm going to like the community here

Yeah, I totally understand what you mean with F2. I fudged the keys when I went to open my trade window in a station and jumped to another area... hahaFrom post: 123694, Topic: tid=8337, author=Marvin wrote:Yes, you can still use the keyboard and mouse. You can even re-assign many of the commands to different keys (hint: start with F2).

I use a saitek X45
I'm very tempted to buy another as a spare whilst they are still available
Any opinions about why the X-52 / X-52-Pro / X45 is the best? Or is it just a matter of preference?

A question for those of you using the X52-Pro, does your MFD glitch out every now and then? LIke, it doesn't spell things right. Where it says stuff like "No Profile" every now and then it says like "No Prifile" instead. There are other cases where it does that too, just randomly swaps out some letters.
It doesn't really bother me because I only use it as a clock anyway. It's a great stick. I have the button LEDs color-coded based off their actions, so I know if I press a red button while targeting something I'm likely to start a war. :-P
I haven't bothered setting up mode 2 and 3 yet. Kinda need to think about what to use them for. I'm thinking one "Combat" mode, one "General Purpose" mode and... no idea what to use the third for.
