Hello, I am considering purchasing Evochron along with some friends, but playing on the same machine would be the selling point!
I noticed some conflicting responses to this when browsing the forums. Some say you cannot, others insist you can. I have a pretty muscular system and an excellent highspeed connection (21+ MBPS).
Would I be able to host and play on the same machine, or is it too unwieldy or technical to get it going?
I ask, because I was just interested in learning the ropes privately with a couple of friends.
Also, could I get away with using a Playstation or XBox controller? I am not too keen on bona fide flight sticks.
Thank you for your time and answers!

You may be able to run both, but performance of the client will suffer. I would recommend running the server program (link on page updated) along with the demo first to gauge if you will get the performance you want. However, it would be best to run the server program on a separate machine, even if it's an older/weaker system.
Yes, you should be able to use any game controller that is Windows compatible and can be picked up by DX/DInput.

I will tell you that if you play on the same machine that you run the server program and you try and use voip, then both will crash.

Thank you for the warm welcome and the technical information. I'll try and give the demo + server software a whirl. You guys seem like a pleasant community, which is also a great selling point.
I play a lot of games, and it isn't too often I come across such a warm, welcoming community of players. And not just in this thread, but the many others I explored when researching the game.

Heya hurtmypony (LOL) and welcome to the game mate. Good luck with your little experiment there, and hope to see you online some time. Joining the USS server will drastically decrease your learning curve!
Until then, clear skies!
