That reminds me ... I flew as turret gunner for a pilot who claimed he never got hit by AI missiles. I could hear them hitting us ... but the ship never took damage. Now I think I know why.
I had the same experience flying as gunner and then he flew as my gunner.
We both felt as though the Ai missiles were hitting but only when we were the playing as the gunner.
I have a feeling this problem is a different sort of thing.
Maars you must be running Windows 7 to read 8 gig. XP only uses three gig even though it see 4 gig (per microsoft). I run XP with 4 gig but really its 3 gig due to the Microsoft OS design.
Maars did you upgrade from XP to Windows 7? Is it worth doing?

I did when I got my latest set-up. I missed out Vista (for obvious reasons). I use W7 64bit - and yes it is worth it

Yes, I did upgrade, and I'm dual booting with Windows XP Pro 32bit and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. If your system is using a Game port then you will not be able to use that game port in Windows 7 and you will have to constantly go into the bios to change the settings to have your game port available in Windows XP if you are dual booting! If you use all USB devices for gaming and do not have an older motherboard with a Game port than you can upgrade to Windows 7 without needing to dual boot! Yes it is worth it!. You can also check with your Motherboard Manufacturer if your Motherboard supports Windows 7 and if your Motherboard is a 64 bit system to run Windows 7 64bit
I do not now if Upgrading to Windows 7 32bit is worth it speed and performance wise over Windows XP 32bit. Also I read some where that if you have Windows XP Pro 64bit you can not dual boot with Windows 7 64bit for some reason......
So yes Windows 7 Pro 64 bit is defenitly faster and better then my Windows XP Pro 32 bit boot!...

My motherboard only handles up to 3 gig ram single channel, which for me is very hard to find. Max stable I can do is 1.5. I don't think I can run windows 7. Or can I?
Thank you for the PC information, I have been debating on switching due to the age of my system or just buying a new system all together that includes Windows 7. The more I play the more I can justify buying a new system.
Vice has a great name because this forum and game is buzzing with his game creation.
He just created a Vice for us all with this game! The USS server is continuously being filled with new players nightly!
Can't wait til my friend MM comes back. He loved seeing his Remula server filled with new and old players alike.
Because I am crazy! I did a full destruct and restore on my PC using my original XP operating system.
Six years of Star Wraith, Arvoch Conflict, Legends and now Mercenary combined with my other programs, games and Microsoft or my mistakes, made me think? Hmmm! Maybe if I started from scratch I could improve my PC's performance. Because after reading SeeJay's and Maarschalk Windows 7 accounts I may go that route or if my years of computer corruptions have been corrected through destruct and restore.
For all those interested I will share my EM Quest for ultimate EM performance!!!!! LOL!!!!!! I hope to be on tonight to evaluate my idea.
Maars so you can go from a 32 bit to 64 bit windows with no issues?
Why don't you just stick with the 64bit Windows 7? Why have the 32bit system around?
SeeJay I am assuming you went from XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64bit?
And your performance improved with the same PC?
My rig was delivered with a dual core 64bit processor with 2Gb Memory and Win XP was included.
That makes it run with 32bit since XP can't handle 64bit.
I got problems running EM and got me Win 7 64bit and kept the 2Gb Memory.
Runs very nice with that.

SeeJay, Maarschalk, Marvin and anyone else I may have forgotten Thank you.

Yes it does but you will not see a benefit in Windows Xp 32bit!
The 4GB patch just removes the 2GB limit flag for 32bit programs that is set at program compilation!...

I thought the same thing but then applied it to Vice's little program, downloaded to my Win XP computer. And the patch got me one level higher than without.

It only lets you pass the memmory test one level more but it does not give you any benefit game wise or speed wise or more consecutive memmory available for the game on Windows Xp 32 bit. The 4GB patcher in this case only removes the flag set for Vice's memory tester which limit is already set to 2GB by many other programs for Windows XP 32 bit! Even if you aply the 4GB patcher to the EM executable file in Windows XP 32 bit it does not give you any better performance. I tried it!....

So, you're saying EM does not, as a default, have the same 2GB limit as his memory tester?

EM executable probably does but when you aply the patcher the patcher only removes the flag from the executable you aply the patcher to! So if you aply the patcher to Vice's memory tester only the tester 2GB flag limit is removed! So you have to aply the patcher to every executable program to have the 2GB flag removed from those programs and then these programs all have access to the 3 GB and could hog your memory!
As I understand it the compiler for 32 bit operating system programs set the 2 GB limit flag at compilation time! Since Windows XP 32 bit limit for memory addressing is only 3GB, removing the flag from the EM executable will not give you a noticable advantage in 32 bit operating systems! Another part to the problem can be also your memory modules set up, like Dynamic Dual Channel or Single Channel per 1 GB or 2 GB modules. Remember 32 bit can only adress up to 3GB so that is why most 32 bit Motherboards have a limit of memory that can be installed per channel!

Per instructions for the Patch. My concern, as it applies to EM, is would you need to apply the patch every time you install a new release of the game?
