Wonderful Sim/ Search question/ view question

Post by DORN »

I got EM running just fine thanks to all of the great posts on problem solving.

1. Perhaps I am missing something, but is there a word or subject search function for the forum threads?

2. Is there a way to pan view around your ship externally in the out side view modes that is controlled from a stick controller. I have a Logitech Freedom 2.4 cordless.

3. Is there a way to pan view in the cockpit via buttons on the controller?

4. Is there a way to get a closer Zoom view of your ship from outside?

Thank you,

DORN

Hi and welcome Dorn.

1. You have a forum search on the top left!
2. Use "V" to get outside view. Pan with tophat! (You have a keymap in your game folder)
3. Pan with Tophat or reprogram in game/controller software
4. I don't think there is a zoom function.

Hope this helps and hope to see you in MP.;)

 When in 3rd person view, the cluster of Home keys will offer side views and zoom.

Hi There!

Thank you very much for the suggestions.

I did find the search function after I had my morning coffee. How embarrassing.

Weird, but I can't get my hat switch to work for panning views. On other sims I have been able to use this hat switch to pan. (I have been able to assign the key functions to my controller buttons in the ME configuration window, but nothing there for hat? Any ideas?

Thank you

Try one of the 'Joystick HAT' modes in the main options menu. If it is an angular HAT, then that should provide you with control options. If it returns button signals, then the buttons will need to be mapped to the view controls on page 1 of the configure controls menu. Then when you enter external views 3-4, those buttons will let you pan the camera around.

Hi Dorn

When you first launch EM you get to the main menu. In that you can decide whether your main HAT is switched off, used for strafe, used for view; You can also alter the sensitivity of your joystick and its "dead zone". (Actually you can use several controllers at the same time (if you can remember what a hundred different buttons and switches do! :P ))

if you switch the HAT off, then in the menu where you attach any key to any function you should be able to attach each of the HAT switch positions (I have five HATS!) to any function. I use one for views, one for strafe, one for yaw and pitch and one for a combination of roll (L-R) + change target (F-B)

Also, when you are in the game and start the exit sequence you have the option to change volume of game music, game voices AND what the HAT does! :)

 Yup ... I use my HAT for panning. And the arrow keys are remapped to the thrusters ... which come in handy when the main engines quit.

I use my hat for keeping my head warm! (If I hold it in my hand upside-down I can use it for panhandling spare change!);)

A hat can be relatively used for many things and can be a valuable assets. When ever I think of a rubber chicken thou, I think of one of those fake ready to bake plucked headless rotisery chickens that girls play with pretending they are cooking a meal in their fake plastic ovens! Now my question is why would a thing like that need a hat?......;):P:P:P:P:P

Nice reference to Independence War, Dorn. Awesome game with the same inertial combat like in the evochron series! :D

 Hat? Did you say hat? First U.S. primary was held yesterday ... so it's probably too late to throw your hat into the ring.
