At the top of your cockpit HUD, in the upper-left, is an option labeled "Order" ... and I'm fairly sure you can access it in the demo. Click on it to get a drop-down menu. What you see is what you get as concerns what you can order your hired crew to do.

Ok shame :( Its looks like a immersive enviroment, but just does'nt have the depth as X3 has to what you can do. Pity I cant take the best features out of both.

Let it go Viper. I have played X3 and I understand what he is looking for. Mercenary is a single player, single ship, free form game that is based on individual accomplishments.
No strategy. No turn based play and no capitol ships with fleets to direct.
Personally, I dislike those type of games and prefer the Mercenary style.
He doesn't care for this game and I don't care for X3!
That's what makes the world go round.
He was right to ask questions and it is his decision to make.
You should not impune his judgement.

I deleted the content of that post. Apologies for choosing the wrong wording to get my point across. Never mind.

Anyways, I hope he finds what he's looking for and has fun playing it. :)

:o MMaggio is probably correct. I played X-3 for quite awhile and corresponded with someone who played it even more ... someone who really enjoyed the "business end" of the game. Setting up factories. Tracking trade routes. Building a financial empire. It never bothered him that the planets were simply eye candy and, if you traveled in the wrong direction for an hour or so, you ended up back where you started.

 It's a different sort of space game. With different objectives.

I think people need to break away from "I'm in A camp and so the B camp is lousy." Both games can be enjoyable, and I think that just because you like one game does not mean you have to dislike another game. It is entirely possible to like mulitiple games.

Personally, I go through phases in which I prefer one game over the other, but then after a week, a month or so, I swing back to the other side. Sometimes I like the action, and sometimes, I like the trading. It all depends on mood.

"Mood? What has mood to do with it? You fight when the necessity arises — no matter the mood! Mood's a thing for cattle or making love or playing the baliset. It's not for fighting."

Hi Crazyewok

I just got done reading this thread and no this doesn't seem to be your kind of game. This is a one man in a fighter kinda thing. You are correct in that you have to micro manage your own affairs. No telling other AIs what to do (well there are small provisions for that). You have to do all the fighting yourself. I find the fun in this game is the never ending battle of mastering Newtonian space to become a better combat pilot especially against others doing the same. In that kind of genra there is no better game than Evochron.

Good luck in your quest. As Vice (the maker of this game) said X3 is probably a better fit for you if that is what you are looking for.

Hello, I'm first time poster.
I'm also extremely new to the Star Wraith/Evochron series. (As in, I've only played the demo of E:M) I'm also coming from the X series, which in turn, I played on account of EVE Online. While I love the lore and universe of the X series, I find it to be a bit too linear on account of the sector style they choose for their universe. I also find the sense of progression to be too slow. While I love X for their sense of detail of the universe, I also can't play the games more than an hour before I start to feel like I could be doing something more productive.

So far, E:M seems to be a better match for me. It's more more exciting and it has in droves the entire reason why I like Space-Sims in the first place: the sense of discovery and exploration. But for me to really feel apart of the universe, it needs to have a engaging and believable universe of different factions of all sorts of different and opposing ideas, a sense of life and a "lived-in" state. In other words, does this game world seem to function, move onward and continue living even if I'm not around? Freelancer did a good job of this and even X3:Terran Conflict did a great job of making me feel like I "lived" in this universe, instead of it being obvious I playing a game centered around me.

Perhaps, it's a petty question to ask, but you'd be surprised just how fast I would jump on this game if it had a dynamic universe to live in.

Hello Zeus Complex, I can say for a fact that Multi-player changes almost daily with Clans claiming new systems and defending those. I have not played most of the games you mentioned so I leave it to others to help you further. The game itself is improved and expanded as the Author makes changes.
Welcome to the forum and hopefully the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you in "Multi-Player" sometime. :)

 Multiplayer is designed to be dynamic. Oddly enough, many of those who own territory would prefer it to be less dynamic. ;)

Hi Zeus Complex, welcome to the forum and hopefully the game!. This Universe is alive and dynamic thanks to the 2 most important people. First Vice, the creator of the Evochron Universe Game and Second MMaggio who is the owner of and runs the Remula One Server 24/7 for at least the 3 years I have been playing the Evochron Games.......;):P:cool:

Hello! I too am considering making the jump to Mercenary from X3:TC (not that the two are necessarily mutually exclusive...). I have pretty much "mastered" the X3 system, modded the game to death, and find myself in kind of a "management mode", if you know what I mean? From the looks of things Mercenary is definitely a more “hands on environment, which at this point may appeal to me more (looking forward to playing the “Malcolm Reynolds type)… My main question is how does everyone here feel regarding the depth of play for the game. Does it lend itself to a dynamic environment that ensures a large “replayability quotient ( you know, the kind that will make my wife ill at me for spending too much time on it… :D)? I realize I’m in a friendly environment for the game here, but from what I’ve seen of the community I believe I can count on your candor… Thanks in advance!

Hi Cougarinva, welcome to the forum and hopefully the game. I personally have not played X3:TC or any of the X series. I like the freedom to do what I want, where I want, how I want, when I want. If you want to know how immersive EM is read the thread about "You know you have been playing EM to much when" (and your wife will defenitely get ill from you playing it to much once you get hooked! so WARNING!, if you are concerned about your wifes health do not play this game! How about a warning label Vice?....;):P:P:P:P:P).......;)

 Depends on what kind of modding you're into ... creating your own or collecting and installing mods made available at this (or SeeJay's or wherever) forum/website. And the importance (to you) of some options in EM which aren't available in the X series ... including the ability to fly direct from one end of the galaxy to the other ... and the ability to make planetfall. Not to mention a lag-free multiplayer engine.

Sounds good! I'm definitely interested! I will likely download the demo and mess around with it a little then purchase the game. I'll have to get very acquainted with it before I go MP though... ;) Thanks for your quick replies. Cheers!

 Don't be shy about MP. R1 is a well-established server and most of its population is (are?) more than willing to help you out. If you do happen to log on when the ruffians are running amok, try the second server (I forget what it's called) ... it's a little bit more tame. And you'll still get help and/or advice.

If you want fight alienS! Buy this game!!!!
If you like explosions! Buy this game!!!!
If you like mining or exploring! Buy this game!
If you want to own a solar system ! Buy this game!!!!
If you want to start war!!!!! Buy this game!!!!!
If you want to be a good guy! Buy this game!
If you want to be a villain! Buy this game!!!!!!
My favorite server is Remula 1 because its a No rules Server (Except for No swearing).
You can get rank fast depending on how much you play. In two months of playing I became a Legend and am one step from being an Admiral with over 5 billion credits.
This game for some pilots is played too seriously! They can be a great help or become very thin skinned to the point of insanity! Buy this game!!!!! Tell your friends!!!!!

I forget what it's called too, but either way get the game and have fun. It is a worthwhile investment. Many of us have spend waaay more on extras for the game like joysticks, trackir, gaming keyboards, than the game cost. If you like space games, and you don't mind having to fly the ship yourself, you really can't go wrong with EM.
