Running Evochron Mercenary on a Mac

Hey guys, a quick couple of questions for you computer whizzes out there...

I'm planning on getting a Mac i5. I know Macs are not really gaming machines but I'm not really a big gamer, as long as it can give decent frame rates I'm happy. As I understand it to run Evochron Mercenary (and most other games I suppose) on a Mac I'd have to install a Windows OS, right? And to do that with a Mac you have to assign a partition of the hard drive for it, right? So my questions are:

1) Which version of windows does everyone recommend? Considering that I won't be using Windows for anything much other than playing a few games, is there a cost-effective option ?

2) How much space on the Hard Drive should I partition for the Windows OS?

If it's useful here are the specs:
2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 SDRAM

I would suggest XP, but that's just me. Vista is a joke and I have no exp with Win 7.
As for hardrive space, probably 1 gig would be the minimum.
Your video card should be adequate.

I would sugest at least 5-10 GB for windows xp (windows + updates + swap file) and whatever u need for programs.
with 1TB drive, 50 to 100 GB or so partition would be ideal

If the Mac will run the 64 bit version of windos xp or windows 7 I would go with the 64 bit to get some better frame rates.
The rest is like Capt_cronic suggest for partition amounts.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Hopefully soon I'll be enjoying Evochron Mercenary on a 27 inch screen with nice smooth framerates... quite a step up from my little laptop!
