Travel hints needed for uber-noob

Post by The Freeman »

Hi all.

So I found Evo Merc recently. So far I've been enjoying racing around near Sapphire, doing small missions and mining the crap out of the local roid belt.

The next thing I want to do is transport somebody somewhere.
I add them as crew and get the coords...etc, but I can't get there. I don't understand about how to go through a gate to get out. Is the gate a particular colour on the Nav-map?

For example, 1 guy wanted to go to Orion Station (1000,0,-2400). I entered these coords into the right-hand side and get a msg saying I can't jump that far (Drive #2). I see I have to go via other systems...etc but can't work out how that goes.
I've looked at other threads and even followed some of the tutorials available, but somehow I'm still missing it. I know it's probably staring me in the face :(

My brother gave the game to check out. Has he maybe given me the demo? He said he downloaded it. Are the limits of the demo something to do with where you can travel to?

I'm really looking forward to getting into this. I used to love hammering away at "Elite" and "Frontier" on my old Amiga 500.

Maybe catch a few of you in the MP if I can get that going too.

Cheers

Hi and welcome Freeman.

I don't think you can leave sapphire in the demo. Try getting online in MP. If you can't, it's the demo.
You need to purchase a key to open up the full game.

You just fly straight throu the gate to jump to another system. Press F1 to open the nav console.
Jumpgates are pink. Right click to zoom and right click again to set waypoint.;)

The Freeman, Glad you are trying the Sim. Even if your brother gave you the full game and not the demo you need your own key/license. The game is inexpensive. As SeeJay said the gates are a pink color and in the shape of an X on the nav map. The look like a Stargate when you approach them in your ship. Welcome to the forum and hopefully the Sim. See you out there sometime.:)

Ok, so I found the gate in Sapphire and managed to jump to...ummm...someplace starting with "E".

Looks like my bro managed to find a cracked version (v1.108) online somewhere. That's how I'm able to jump.
It doesn't need a serial, but can't go online for multiplayer

Am downloading the latest version in a minute and purchasing the full game...as is right. Besides, as thetiebers said...it's inexpensive.

All sorted.

Many thanks. I'll probably be back in here in the forums with more noobish queries soon :P

Also with a class 2 jump drive you can only jump 2 sectors at a time. So any Sector coords more then 2 away from your current sector you can not jump directly to. There is an experimental jumpdrive that can let you jump 10 sectors at a time....Good luck finding one cause for long travel exploration you going to need one if you short on time to play the game....;):P

Purchased the full game (v1.208) and now up and running .
Restarted with a new pilot, but still not 100% sure on the flying between sectors...etc.

I can find the Jumpe Gate ok, but is it the coords I enter that dictate exactly which direction it sends me? Or is there only "In" and "Out" of the JG?

EDIT: Found a map of the area. Ok, I see the other gates now. I think I see how it works. Will keep you posted.

Uber-noob out :P

There is only "In and Out".

If you hover the mouse or right click on it in Nav console, it says the destination as well.
Direction if you jump to anything will be calculated automatically. (Straight line towards waypoint)

You could take a look at my site if you want, but be warned, it's a spoiler as well.;)

See ya out there I hope.

The gates are as you say 2 way, in and out. You don't have to enter any cords just go through. If you open the nav map and place your mouse indicator over the red X it should show the destination. if you are far from the gate you can right click over the red X to lock onto it. Put your ship level and at Zero degrees on the compass so when you hit F2 you will be lined up to jump straight though the gate or you can just drive though if you are close. :)

Hop onto MP and pilots can guide you also.

Anyways, welcome to the forums and the sim Freeman, if you see a ship floating aimlessly with no life support, that's probably me hunting for Vonari.
